Has anyone ever owned and compared KEF 104.2s? I am trying a pair right now and they are impressive but wondering about other experiences. These would be the 1989 1990 version

Are they the ones with the woofer inside? If so, they have fantastic bass and actually a darn good sounding speaker but watch for foam rot on the inside woofer.

I haven't owned them but I had a few friends that did.

If you like that sound, try to get your ears on the 105. Careful on a 105 search, some had a woofer sag if not rotated and caused a coil rub.

Yes To be fair in comparing speakers I go through a series of discs at night with lights off and the annoying blue lights on the integrated covered. I did this last night night with these Holy crap. There is something about them. It is written they are rated from 55-20,000 and do go lower but need the Kube to really boost below that/ Some say the Kube screws up the mids. They seemed to have plenty of bass without the Kube and had good punch. The stage is out in front of you which I like and is huge I kept opening my eyes only to see these fairly small boxes Very natural sounding Not the most transparent like a Thiel but good enough. Not as dark as a Vandersteen nor is there a change in emphasis of a certain band depending on volume as the Vandys tend to do. The only big thing I have hear to compare them to is my Infinity RS 2.5s They have more bass weight and are cleaner sounding/sharper images (EMIM and EMIT big shock) but the sound is over there across the room and more like a wall of sound Never have liked that. I had PSB Gold recently The 104.2 are smoother and more open and for sure in a the vertical sense ie taller stage. Not sure Also could look at some Epicure 1s
