Used CD player suggestions

Looking for a quality used Sony CD player. There are many cheap junky players out there. Will use for basic two channel only.
Any suggested models and what to look for? Want a Sony because of remote compatibility.

Thanks much.

The XA5400ES might be up your alley. I haven't heard one, but a lot of folks like it. Be sure to acquire a spare Sony optical pickup before they are no longer available or Sony jacks the price sky high.

Wow a little Sony research shows that repairs for this CD player is
impossible, thanks F1. I just need a simple black 2 channel CD player with remote used for about $500 maximum. Any manufacture is ok as long as it is reliable.

Speaking of Pioneer DV-45A DVD/CD/SACD player, I have one that I bought new and it's now collecting dust that I will offer at a pretty good price if this interest you. It's been a work horse over the years and will offer a pretty good level of play for the buck. I have original remote and pretty sure I have original packaging. Guaranteed to arrive in good working condition (minus a PFB type of disaster) or money back. I've been a member here for 7 and a half days, every since I got out of prison for running confidence scams, so buy with confidence!

    Good luck with your search.

A used Marantz SA8003 or maybe the SA8004 if you up the budget a little.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Doing Sony research I see that they just made way to many CDPs models such that you can't get parts for older model repair, sad.

I'm suddenly not getting any notification of new posts on this topic. How do I fix that?

If a Sony player is the goal, it may pay to look at the last generation of quality built ES level DVD players Sony put out like the DVP-NS9100ES. I had one of those and it was rock solid reliable and sounded pretty good for two channel CD or SACD. I used it for two channel, not video.

Personally, I would look at a new Marantz CD player. They are still putting out a quality product that's well built for a decent price.

If you can find one, check out the tried and true Jolida JD-100. They don't come up for sale often for good reason.

I have a Pioneer DV-47Ai that I purchased from eBay not that long ago and it works very well. It was very reasonably priced and I can control it with a Logitech Harmony remote.

I had a Rotel CDP many years ago that I regret selling. It was a very solid piece of equipment and I never had a problem with it.

Good luck in your search but I don't think you need to look too far beyond this thread (the Pioneer or Rotel CDPs offered here are both top notch).

BB is selling the CD6005 for $399.00. They must have some NOS.

Those Marantz cdp's are probably your best bet going for price and SQ in a new player.

Sony hasn't done cdp's well since the ES series imho.Look for an older Pioneer AVI59, which was a universal player but did cd's very well.

The one you linked is a CD-5005 for 399.99, not really a deal IMO. I got my CD-6006 for that.

Wow my eyes are failing me. The 6005 is no longer available, replaced by the 6006.

Sorry I got my eyes crossed posting a link to the 5005, don't want that.

Some LaserDisc players make great CD transports (especially the Elite models). While it may seem like overkill, you can pick them up for pennies on the dollar.

Plays great. Thanks for all your suggestions but you can't beat free.

If you're not committed to Sony, I can recommend Cambridge Audio's Azur 840C. I have purchased two, and continue to use one. The other one was gifted to my daughter! :) These are not only good sounding, reliable transports, but also godd as DACs.

Here's one on Audiogon for $600:

I have a Sony DVP-S7700 that I use as a CD player and it works great. Extremely well made and for the money these can be found in the used market they are really tough to beat. I have had no trouble playing any discs or cdr's. Can be found in the used market for 50-200. I also have the older version of this DVP-S7000 and would recommend it also. I am strictly using these as a CD players. I also have some older Sony ES 5 disc players and could recommend the CA70ES and CA80ES also cheap on the used market. Good luck.
