How do YOU describe your listening room ?

... lots of compromises in integrating. is your room live and uncluttered ?? carpet vs hardwood !! Overstuffed furniture or modern ?? Of course dimensions of space.

- makes all the difference in quality of audio.

- I like a cluttered room for more realistic sound of a live performance.

- a friend has awesome equipment in a sterile room. Sounds hollow . unnatural.

- live music has a multitude of variances. Space, audience etc. Each is unique.

- Studio music is created in a controlled environment.... for a certain SOUND !!!

- Your system interprets it . Create as you like. BUT !! every space and taste is different !!

.... just my humble op ion and not fake news !!

Mine....a hot mess. 26 BY 24 ft. room, roughly 8 ft. tall ceiling and I have to have it all tucked in a corner.

Had it once on the only available long wall, where it sounded best but in the ceiling was where my outside water line comes across. Happened to break once and flooded the whole area. Won't risk that with all the electronics. Fireplace on opposite long wall. Bar on left short wall and on the right short wall is windows and a sliding door. Add to that a support pole in the middle of the room making it hard to centralize a seating position.

My system is between the fireplace and windows on the short wall with heavy curtains over the window....angled in that corner.

Before you ask, no....I'm not putting a tv over a wood burning fireplace, and it would be way too high for the sitting distance because of that darn pole. It would be like sitting in the first row of a movie theatre.

So yeah, it sucks but we all do what we can with what we have to work with.

A sad compromise of layout, geometry, and acoustical properties that somehow works very well. As if *alot* of 'wrongs' make a 'right'.

Big enough but too square (albeit with a "cathedral" ceiling that helps mitigate the square footprint of the room), and way too cluttered, messy, and disorganized.

I deliberately put in wall to wall carpeting (completely out of character with the rest of the house) rather than wood flooring because I like soft, "dead" acoustic environments.

If I had more chutzpah and slightly more gumption/motivation, I'd try rearranging the room with the hifi "on the diagonal". I was thinking quasi-seriously, just yesterday. of trying this -- but it would be a pretty mammoth undertaking.

It's a comfortable (IMO), functional living room - with the benefit of a nice-sized 67"
TV and a pretty decent 5.1 surround sound system.
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

My listening building is very well insulated so I'm able to listen at any volume at any time without disturbing anyone. It's also well lit with 5 skylites and has heat and ac. The kegerator always has a half barrel on tap. And there's even a spot in there to park my motorcycle Sometimes I find myself spending more time in there than is necessary

A little compromise, mostly symmetrical layout.

LR measure 12.5' from the Hotseat, ~6" from wall. Tweeters 9.5' apart. Right channel ~2" from outside wall.

Large, thick area rug between couch and Front.

Surrounds: ~6' to the left & ~4 to the right, about a foot to the rear, ~7' off the floor.

Next place I want the Front 13+' from me, at least 12' apart; both surrounds 6'+, more sound treatment.

Far from ideal. Hardwood and fairly live. Unfortunately it is also my main living area so don't want to put ugly room treatments up. If only I could get rid of the workout equipment I could have a dedicated room!

A shoebox that contains three spaces; living room, kitchen, and dining room with only minimal partitions separating them. Stereo is in the living room portion along the long wall side. Seems to work quite well.

    Edit:

The ceiling over the stereo is 12' high, and slopes to 8' high at the front of the house. Running the length of the room, there is a wooden beam on the ceiling between the two walls, and this design seems to eliminate any ceiling reflections.
