Are Monitor 70's worth upgrading?

I stumbled across a very nice pair of Monitor 70's in my local thrift shop. They were asking $100.00 for them. I happened to have a 25% off coupon with me they had emailed me and got then for $75.00. They look and sound very good. I use them in my little work room where I clean LP's and tinker with fixing things. At best they sound as good as my Monitor 5B's, which I am waiting for parts to rebuild the XO's. Doing my homework on the 5B's rebuild I started wondering if the M70's are worth rebuilding. How old do you think they are?
Any suggestions on rebuilding their XO's, or any other mods worth doing? By the way,I will use them with my Hafler DH220 power amp which pumps out 115 watts per channel. I am also wondering if the M5B's sound so good in their original form, will they blow away the M70's after they are rebuilt?

They're not that old. I'm surprised you think they're on par with your Monitor 5s. I wouldn't bother with their crossovers.

I was pretty surprised as well that they didn't blow away the 5b's. They sure are prettier. I already ordered the parts to rebuild the 5b's. It will be a nice little project for a cold night. thanks for your input.

Other way around, I'd say the M5's are better than the M70's except with maybe bass.

Lower power I would guess the M5's would be better ,but with at least 75 watts from a strong reciever or amp I think the M70's outperform them. I own both. It's all in what you listen to and personal preferences. Peace. D

Received all of me XO parts and started taking apart the M5b's. One of the Mids has a dimple in the center and one PR is coming off of the center mesh that connects it to the magnet. Never noticed and issue with the sound. Is there a way to repair these?

Noticed that there is no polyswitch on the M5B XO's. Also, What is the difference between the 5A's and the 5B's?

Have your PR's been replaced with active drivers? There shouldn't be a magnet on them.

Aleene's glue, I believe, is what you're looking for.
