Hi I am looking for a new head unit to replace my Rockford Fosgate RFX9400. I was looking at getting a Clarion DXZ745MP for $255 ($399 regular price) at SoundDomain.com. Does anyone here use Clarion or have this unit, is it a good deck? I am looking to see if I should get it or not. Also if any other units I should look at for consideration Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse? What kind of head unit is everyone using here? Thanks

Try the Alpine 9813/9815. They are a little more expensive, but well worth it. If you're going to be playing any MP3's, the quick search function is priceless.
Also, the Pioneer DEH P850MP is really nice.http://www.silverdragon.com/punkie/cybertusk/net.idiot.html - Read it, know it

I myself like Alpine a lot. Ive had a couple wrinkles with them but I love the way they look and perform. I believe they have some quality control issues in their manufactuering but I still like em a lot.
Clarion used to be top shelf goods. I dont know much about them now but would bet they are still pretty good.
Id stay away from Sony. They make great electronics but for some reason cant seem to do the same with car audio. Panasonic makes a cool looking deck these days but I dont know how well they perform.
Bottome line: I recommend the Alpine but youd be doing fine with a Kenwood, Pioneer, Clarion or Eclipse. Theyre all fine units.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Okay here are some of the head units I am deciding on:
Panasonic CQ-C8300U $225
Pioneer DEH-P7600MP $215
Clarion ProAudio DXZ745MP $256
Clarion ProAudio DXZ945MP $434 (more on the high price for me but it does look sick, with lots of features)
Clarion ProAudio DXZ845MC $309 (Music Catcher Digital Recorder)
Please let me know what you think of them, which one you would get and why? Thank for all the input so far... And keep posting what units you guys are using in your rides... So many choices makes it confusing, gezzz... -
Like I said, they will all perfrom well. I would base your desicion on features. Do you want 2 or 3 pre-outs? Do you want a high voltage pre-out? Do you want a crossover or low pass filter?
Other than that Id pick the $434 model. It does look pretty damn cool!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

I have a DXZ725 and love it. If you like radio this HU pulls in am and fm stations from a long distence. If you like pure CD quality, this thing rocks. I have to give it a perfect rating on everything about it except some of the control buttons are too small for my fat fingers.I mostly use the supplied remote.

if you're gonna spend into the 4-5 hundred range just get an eclipse, they're some of the best sound quality decks money can buy and my next purchase is gonna be their top of the line deck for about 560 or so, i think the website is www.eclipse-web.com and if you get one of their decks you can add on the eclipse commander later and amaze your friends with your voice controlled car (stereo, windows etc...) other than that i've currently got a pioneer 2000 series that's 6 years old and still making great music, and alpine is also good. As far as clarion goes i'd shy away from it since i've heard that they've realy gone downhill from what they used to be as far as sound quality goes, sure they look cool and have a lot of features but from what i've heard you'd be sacrificing sound quality for it... of the decks you listed earlier i'd take the pioneer dehp7600mp or maybe upgrade to the 8600 cause that flip face is straight pimpHemi: (HEM -e) adj. My only complaint about Eclipse is that they are so damned ugly! Why cant they make a cool looking deck. Their amps look sharp as do their speakers. So why in the name of Gawd cant they make a head unit with looks that would rival Alpine?!polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

Yeah. Eclipse head units were definately beaten with the ugly stick. Personal preference says go with Pioneer! The high end models not only look gorgeous but sound good2005 Subaru Impreza WRX
