I am looking at the H/K AVR 210 and the Onkyo TX DS595. Anybody own one or know anything about these two. Any other recievers in the $500 price range that I should consider.

Thanks

I'd stay away from HK receivers, unless they have fixed the many bugs.

    Peace Out~:D

For the money I think you might be happier with the Onkyo. I have the HK AVR500 and have never had a problem with it, but I can't say that for the DVD player. I had the DVD 5 and after four of them HK is upgrading me to the DVD 50 free of charge. I have family members that own the Onkyo and are happy with it and they are also happy with the DVD player. The only thing I do not like about the low end Onkyo is it does not have any pre-outs, where the HK does. I also know other people with HK and they do not have any issues, but I still believe they are a little over priced.

Where are looking to purchase the unit? You might want to check out onecall.com. They have good prices and sometimes have refurbished units at great prices.

Put a tick in the Oink collumn....

I ran a dig-ready sv454 for years matched to 800's, ls/fx, and a cs300. In my book, Onkyo is a great match with Polk RT/CS/FX speaks, period.

    Cheers,

go with the onkyo, too many prolbrems with harmon lately... I heard outlaw at the show in manhatten over the summer, wasn't awed by them, in fact I thought the build quality was a little cheesy, alot of people like them though, just my opnion.

I've been using the HK 310 to drive RM6600's for over a year now before I upgraded to 800i/400i setup this month. I have been nothing but impressed the the HK and haven't had any problems.

If I had to choose one of the two I would go with the Onkyo. However, I just returned a Onkyo TX DS797 to Crutchfield. Something was wrong with the front right channel. From the minute I turned the reciever on I was getting a farely noticable ticking noise. At first I thought something was wrong with my tweeter in my 600i, but I attached my other speaker to the front right and still had the noise. Also, I think something was wrong with the learning feature on the remote and none of the Denon DVD codes would operate my DVD-2800.
I'm exchanging the Onkyo for the Denon AVR-3802. Crutchfield dropped the price $200 on the Denon so it cost the same as the Onkyo. I've had Denon in the past and the new DVD player works great. I should recieve the Denon in a few days so I can't really tell you much about it other than I am getting more power and 7.1 surround for the same price.
I still have my first Denon reciever, it is at least 16 or 17 years old. Check out the Denon AVR-1802. I have an old Cruthfield that has it listed at $499.

I have to say that I have an Onkyo and am very satisfied with the overall craftmanship and quality. Very good compliment to my Polk speakers! So here is another vote for the Onkyo!

I would have to agree with the others who have mentioned the Outlaw 1050. Take a look at their site www.outlawaudio.com and audioreview.com. I recently purchased the Outlaw myself and am quite pleased with it thus far.
