warantees (are they recomended?)
Sorry peeps. New to this forum and now have my second question. Best Buy recommended buying warranties. We bought their 9 year warranty and then found out that when we got home that the my T15's T30 and T50's already all come with a 5 year manufacturers warranty and my PSW125 has a 3 year warranty. Do you people recommend buying these warranties or are they generally a waste?

For speakers a big waste of money. The best way to predict the future is to invent it.

My opinion for the most part is no. They make big $$ on warranty's, that's why the push them so hard. TV's maybe but speakers no. Usually in my experience if you're gonna have a problem it will happen during the manufactures warranty period. JMHO.

I would on a TV, I like the 5 year Geek Squad warranty. Not on speakers in my opinion.

They would be more appealing to me if they started after the manufacturer's warranty expires. Instead they run in parallel, so depending on how long the original warranty is, you waste a few years.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

We have a chain of stores in Western Canada here that does sell extended warranties however they have an interesting twist they apply at the end of the term if you don't use it during the term.
Simply put they refund the price of the extended warranty back to the purchaser in the form of in-store credit towards the purchase of new product. Not many do but they do and I've personally put it to the test a few times. They honour their policies to the letter, great company to deal with in fact. Same one I just bought my NAD from to be honest.

Speakers no. There is really no use in it. Use those funds to get a better receiver or even maybe a better sub.Epson 3020 projector. Da Lite screen. Oppo 103. Yamaha CXA5000. B&K 7250ii. HSU VTF2. Def Tech Supercube 4000. Polk Rtia9 CsiA6 FxiA6. Monster hts 2600. Home theater.
Bedroom consist of NHT model 2 powered by Parasound hca1200ii coming from my computer.
Stuff laying around. Too much to list but don't want to sell either. -
The biggest benefit to extended warranties is to the seller's bottom line. Extended warranties give some consumers peace of mind. If you can't buy something without dreading that someday it will fail, then go ahead and buy yourself some peace of mind, too.
I just love it when a salesman tells me how fantastic a product is before I've committed to purchasing it, only to turn around after I've decided to buy and tell me that I really should insure it with an extended warranty, as it's bound to break! -

That's actually pretty cool. Think about it - you've already given them that money, and they've incurred no costs against it. Kind of like buying a gift card, then using it years(?) down the road. So, it's no skin off their back, and they've potentially locked in a future purchase. -

I would have advised an extended warranty in this instance. Most speaker damage occurs because the owners over tax the equipment powering them. Sure plate amps fail on sub woofers, but not as often as many people think.
I can see a tv or maybe an AVR, but that would be about it for anything you could buy from Best Buy. In general extended warranties just aren't worth the cost. One exception is if you buy a new air conditioning system, and a 10 year parts and labor warranty is available, buy it.
