Q about "Bass Management" speaker setup

I am quite new to the hometheater world and still learning things.

I bought the Polk Audio RM6005 a couple of days back. The manual suggest a "unique" way to connect the front speakers for "Bass Management" (Fronts connected via Sub). My question is: after buying an expensive receiver, is it a good idea to rely on the filter system of the sub rather than take advantage of the receiver's capability of dispatching the right signals to the Front satellites?

Also, I find the center channel to be a tad low in volume. If I increase the dB level for center channel, it kind of "takes over" the front satellites. Did anyone have a similar issue? How would you handle this.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

What I can tell you is that for any of my past sat/sub systems I always connected them through the sub, I found it beneficial during bass management. As far as the centre it should be a tad more noticable than your mains as it carries most to all of the dialogue, the mains are music and background if in PL,DD,DTS and so on. If you want a perfect tune you will have to hop out to the ratshack and pick up an spl meter, or do it by ear using the pink noise ( test tone on the receiver)

And one main reason is that sometimes when you have the speakers hooked up to the receiver the receiver doesn not send bass to the sub in Stereo mode by hooking it up through the sub it should correct this prob. so try it out !!

I haven't done the SPL meter speaker calibration yet and I'm very hopeful to make the system sound better.

On second thoughts, the better way to have "best of both worlds" could be the suggested parallel wiring (connecting the Sub and front sats directly and parallel to receiver's Mains). This way, the subs and sats both get all the signals.

Welcome to the forum mgaitonde. The issue with bass management is a very complex issue, and I think that you will recieve many different posts and opinions regarding this very hot subject. I myself only use my sub for anything with a dedicated lfe channel (low frequency effects) including any DVD's with a .1 or any high rez audio with a .1 in them. Because of this, I have my sub hooked up to my reciever via an rca style cable from the lfe jack of the reciever, to the lfe jack of the sub.
