I was hesitant at first to have two threads on the matter, but decided to post in a new thread here because I didn't want this to get lost in all the comments to and from PFB in my original thread, and wanted to make sure my appreciation is known.
ORIGINAL THREAD
I wanted to say thanks to everyone for their thoughts and support, it means a great deal to me. I haven't been as active here lately so wasn't sure what kind of reaction I'd get but I have some good friends on here and that was the easiest way for me to get the word out. All the support is proof that Club Polk even with all the changes over the years is still one of the greatest forums on the internet.
A special thanks to Ron and daboyz for putting something together as well, this hit us fast and hard financially and the donations have been unexpected yet extremely helpful. I won't include names because they likely wouldn't want the public recognition and I can't do PMs because this speak and spell software doesn't like all the forum features, but the dozen or so people know who you are and I can't thank you enough.
Things will likely get very busy for the next few days leading up to the surgery next Tuesday and I have no idea how long I'll be down after that so I wanted to post this now while I still can.
This is certainly not a life threatening situation and I know people go through a lot worse, but it's also traumatic enough to make you stop and take notice of things. The support and generosity of this forum has been amazing, thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

Quick Update, somewhat mixed news
The bad news is that my right eye is now 99% gone, I can see shades of light and that's it. There's nerve damage there that we don't yet have the technology to fix so nothing that can be done. Vision in this eye was already terrible anyway, so while it's definitely a lot worse now it's not like it went from perfect to zero overnight.
The left eye is in better shape, surgery on that one went well and there's a good chance I'll end up with passable vision in that eye. The vision now is really bad and it's a pain just to type this out, but I'm obviously able to get thru it. That vision is supposed to improve over the next couple months and then we'll know what the final outcome is. I go back in 3 weeks to have another set of scans to make sure there's no further bleeding in this eye, and then by LSAF I'll pretty much have whatever vision I'm going to have going forward.
They were able to go with a sterile air bubble instead of a synthetic gas, it has already shrunk in size a good bit and should be gone in a few days. I got the OK to go home today so checked out of the hotel after 10 days total.
Between the generosity of the folks on this forum and selling off the audio gear I'd started to build a system with I was able to pull together all the money I needed for the surgery and hotel stay, crossing my fingers we don't get hit with anything else. We just bought this house a few months ago so coming up with $10K on the spot was not easy. If things continue to progress down this path my job and all that is still good so only a matter of time before I'm back on my feet, until then I'll just have to live with my soundbar and headphones :-)
Thanks again to everyone for their support, you guys are great. -
Very glad to hear it. Thanks for the update and will continue to pray for you"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963)
