Front height speakers

Actually, 3 questions re front heights, esp relative to my RTi12 and CSiA6 front speakers, RTi6 surrounds, Outlaw LFM-1EX sub.

1. Very interested in opinions whether front heights are likely to make a worthwhile difference in my large room (with 12' vaulted ceiling). To stack the deck a little, I LOVE most of the sound (HT and music) I get now, but I really would like to have more overhead/"submersive" sound of aircraft and such overhead giving the bad guys what they have coming. :D
2. If I do go the front height route, should I get sealed or front-ported speakers to mount on the wall?
3. Given my present speaker lineup, would Polk TSX-110/220 or T15 work? Or, Monitor 40 (which really is taller than I would prefer)? Or would you recommend something else? You need to know that I am "thrifty".

Thanks for your ideas!

Front height does add some to the overall theater experience. It's not the night and day of going from 2.0 to 5.1.

Speakers you don't have to be big but should match the rest of your front sound stage. I would look for some RTi4 RTiA1 to match your RTi12. Great thing is these have wall mount brackets already on them.
When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

  • Howdy, for my front highs I'm using FX1000's. Sounds really good during movies, for my rear surrounds I'm running RT3000's. The mains and side surrounds are SRT's and dual SRT center channels for on screen dialogue. Dual PSW1200 and a MicroPro 4000 finish off the setup for the lows. It took me a long time to build up my HT, but it works for me and I'm happy with it.

  • As someone mentioned, I would recommend the Rti4 or RtiA1 since they match your fronts. I actually went with OWM 5's height speakers with my Rti4 fronts. I purchased mounts so I could direct the sound to my listening position.
    Polk Rti4 pair, OWM 5 pair, CSi3, FXIA4 pair, SVS PB-1000, Denon 2100W.
