You house has weird settling issues.

You know, they make tools called stud finders. You don't need to put an outlet on each side to locate one.... ;)

I can't use a stud finder. Because every time I try to use one, it just keeps pointing at me instead of the wall. Throws off the whole point of using one for it's intended purpose.

Additionally.....there are some support issues if you cut in three new circuits in a single stud bay. 14.5 inches and 1/2" sheetrock. See that pic of wire on the sidewalk? We had to run 15' up from the panel. Across 40' of attic. Down 14' on the other side. All the while operating in a few 6" x 6" holes in existing sheetrock and a few well placed 5/8" holes from bottom plate upstairs to upper plates down stairs. It was done in three single pulls from panel to receptacles. No junction boxes in the runs.
I will kick Dan square in the nards as soon as I regain use of my right leg.

    @lightman1

Aren't they all in one bay? The PS Audio ones. The outer part is of course in its own bay.

I think there is a shadow from the entertainment center that is casting a vertical line that makes it look like there is a stud running between the far left and middle PS Audio outlets, which is what @mrbiron is referring to.

I was running around w kidos and changing diapers and the vacuum while you did the cut in on the outlets part so I of course defer to you.

Here are the pics I posted and then pulled lol...

Thank god I didn't cheap out and buy a single 250 foot roll to do them in three runs, but went with three rolls so we did em all at once!

    WTF?!?!?!?! :#

That's the 12/2 Romex for the three individual 20 amp circuits we installed.

We unrolled the cable in the drive way and then pulled it up one side of the house and the across the attic and then down to the HT.

See picture. This is an old pic I stole from the original listing ad and mocked up everything. This is when I also planned to run dedicated outlets to the loft. I've since given up on that.

It's all making sense now Dan...
Nice work Russ. I have to ask why not just one 3gang box instead of 3 different boxes. Plugs too big for outlets so close.

No worries Dan. @mrbiron is a dink and can't tell a shadow from a seam ripple. To which is why he is a project manager as opposed to someone who actually does the work.
@honestaquarian ...there are now three 20 amp dedicated feeds to the HT. Cleaner power to gear. ;)
Couldn't have completed the project without the the singular query of "Why?" being asked by the 3' tall engineer every thirty seconds.

I believe it's against code to do that here but defer again to @lightman1

Yup, each outlet is on its own 20 amp breaker (bottom three in the picture)
and I've got one slot still open for other non audio stuff if I ever need them.

Yup and your right, the spacing ensures wide power cable plugs have no issue fitting in.

And these outlets were toched by both @helipilotdoug and @F1nut so they gotta be good lol.

  • I remember the first time I had the opportunity to try using a dedicated 20 amp outlet in an apartment I had 25 years ago. I had a Denon two piece mini stereo that was modeled after and made to compete with the Proton.I was listening to WYBC 94.7 out of New Haven,CT from Hartford and it was REALLY noisy. So just for the halibut I switched over to the 20 amp outlet that was put in for an air conditioner, but wasn't being used.
Just like that the noise level dropped DRAMATICALLY. I was shocked and pleasantly surprised.
Suddenly I didn't have any problems hearing the music over all of the noise.

    Preparing a home cooked meal.

C'mon Mark....this a no **** deal...Dan had all of his HT set running of a 15A general use circuit outlet. Lighting loads on the same cicuit. A wee bit noisy.
Seperating his B&K 5ch amp, the Crown amp for the sub and the conditioner for the peripherals to their own nearly isolated ground circuits did yield a noticeable increase in lower noise. AC sine wave is not perfect, but he is now a little bit closer.

Catching up on the posts. Ivan, when you have circuits from individual breakers, you can't have them in the same end point enclosure ie. gang box. Say you have some half arsed romex jockey replacing a device in that box. They see the overhead light turn off when the helper finds the right breaker. But! In that same box is a three-way stand alone switch fed from the upstairs landing light on a different circuit breaker. Mechanic is fiddling around in same box with two different feeds. He gets electrocuted.
    End of story.
So.... with three derived circuits from a common source, keep them seperated in their own end device enclosures.
Plus, there is something about those big stupid power cords you people use.
