Polk Rti12 Vs Signature SS55
I own Polk Rti12 powering it up with Carver mt1.5 350 watts channel. I recently visited a store in down town manhattan Adorama Store and saw the Signature ss55 series without a sub and powered by Harman Kardon Avr 1601 receiver. I was blown away by the sound especially the bass coming from the speakers. Their floor will be 6x bigger than my living room and every corner was filled with bass and smooth sound. I am planning to sell the Rti12 to get the signature 60. No need for subs with these speakers. Amazing work by polk. It was able to handle every sound thrown at it. Every customer present at that time was amazed. Has anyone get similar experience?

I have a pair of the Sig20s and I completely agree with your assessment on the lows this speaker line can reproduce.2ch rig: Speakers: Magnepan LRS w/Magna Riser stands Preamplifier: Parasound P5 Amplifier: Parasound A23 CDP: Pioneer DV-563A Cables: Wireworld Equinox 7 XLR ICs, Wireworld Ultraviolet 7 USB, AudioQuest Q2s, AudioQuest NRG X(preamp)

I am surprised to hear that the S60s got that kind of bass response with that weeny HK receiver. HK USED to make ballsy great sounding integrateds and AVRs, but no longer. If the s60s sound as good as you say with that AVR, I can only imagine what they might sound like with a higher end Marantz or Yamaha or an external amp. I would love to get my ears on them that's for sure!Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

@ Xcapri79 I demo the music that I play home at home. These are the songs 1. Long After You're gone- Chris Jones, 2. Ain't Gonna give up on love- Stevie Ray Vaughan, 3.Fat Babies - Lyle Lovett 4. Tin Pan Alley - Stevie Ray Vaughan, 5.My Parties - Dire Straits. 6.Wild West End - Dire Straits, 7.You and Your friend - Dire Straits.
I wish you could demo it too. For music, I won't need a Sub but for movies it will need a Sub for low end but even without a Sub, Alice In Wonderland was great -

I've got the S55's, S35, S15's and a Velodyne DPS-10 sub powered by a Marantz SR5011. Every day I listen to them, they seem to be getting better and better and continue to blow me away. My wife has taken good notice of them since last night. Judy Butcher's - Can't be with You Tonight sounded like she's live. A worker came from the first floor to witness it and another customer like me couldn't walk away. He held the speaker looking all around and asked if there's a sub at the bottom. we laughed. I am definitely going for these speakers

They have bump in the 50Hz range, which gives the illusion of more bass than there really is.Political Correctness'.........defined

F1nut. it goes down to 40hz and was set large and the sound was phenomenal. I am not embellishing it but you can go demo it. Anyway different ears and tastes everyone present praised the speakers. It all depends what you will feed it with. I am using separates home but the Harman Kardon Avr really did it's work.

You don't seem to understand what a bump at 50Hz means or sounds like.Political Correctness'.........defined

few mass market speakers even remotely try to be "neutral," i.e. no intentional peaks or valleys in the frequency response, because, well, that's boring for the untrained ear, and there is nothing that stands out or grabs you. For the RTiA series, the 5 khz bump made them sound more exciting and forward, but this could be fatiguing.
This does not mean that they might not legitimately go down to 40 hz (I have no idea if they do or not, there are no bench measurements out yet), it just means that they stuffed a sock down low to give the extra illusion of, well, the goods.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Which basically means you'll still need a sub for proper HT use. I'd like to hear them some time.

Pardon my ignorance but why add bumps anyway ?
-
Their floor will be 6x bigger than my living room and every corner was filled with bass and smooth sound.
I have not heard either yet, but I wanted to point out that often a bigger room can help bass response. In small rooms there is not enough space to get full bass waves. The shape of he room can also have an effect. Subs overcome this by sheer displacement and volume, actually pressurizing the room. I've heard the same tower speakers in a large listening room and a small one. The larger room often had more bass. With some bookshelf speakers the opposite was true, but these had one 5-8" woofer in a small cabinet.

Pardon my ignorance but why add bumps anyway ?
Good question, not ignorance at all.
Some speaker makers add a bump in the frequency response, usually in the mid bass area, to make the speaker sound like it produces lots of bass. Some over do it though and thus draws attention to itself.
Matter of preferences really, some like that over emphasized bass sound, others try to eliminate it.HT SYSTEM-

I would say that the MAJORITY of speakers you listen to at best buy (not magnolia so much) have an intentional bump somewhere it the frequency response. Either midbass/lower midbass or 1-5 khz. The lower bump gives the impression of more bass, the upper bump makes them sparkle and sound more exciting. When listening to a speaker with a bump next to one that has a flatter response, the average listener will think that the "bumped" speaker sounds better, because it either sounds like it has more bass or more treble detail. In reality it has neither, but those speakers sell better at best buy. just look at bose, the king of this crap...
No audiophile wants a bump for pure 2 channel, but if you have a dedicated two channel separate HT, the bumps can make HT more exciting. Lots here have an RTiA HT setup and love it for movies, but don't listen to music through them. For the less critical among us, RTiAs would be a great dual purpose system.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Would explain why I've moved my whole rti system to storage in the basement and have gone with my 2.1 b&w and svs for the tv and music.
-
@Willow why not now. Can't wait.
-
-
@ Willow. You said you will explain why you put the Polks at the storage and went with B&W with SVS. I'm waiting for the explanation. Don't know which of the B&W you have but I want to hear the difference between the Lsim 707 vs CM10
-
Sorry, the fact I found them too bright for music. Actually compared to my 703 they fail miserably at music in general. Others might feel differently. I just knew I couldn't stand to listen to them for music anymore.
