new setup for chevy nova
NovaSS
Posts: 2
Hi, I just made ordered a alpine 164bt, alpine ktp-499a, polk db651 6.5 for the front and polk db691 6x9 for the rear. I was going to just power speakers off head unit but every post i read says install a amp. I just didnt want to run the wiring until after i get a sub in about 6 months+. I went with the ktd but couldnt find any threads using this setup. I was wondering what your thoughts are on this setup? I was told by crutchfield that the alpine ktp-499a is a true 45x4 rms 180 watts. Is 45watts enough for the db651 and db691
This will be going in a 76 nova ss. with a custom built center console. the console with have the 6.5" mounted in it and the cd player. The 6x9 will be in the rear deck.

The head unit should drive the db651 but a good external amp will do better.Stan

He is right, it will work fine without but would always be better with an external amp. If you want what you can do is get an amp for the speakers and run the power and ground through a distribution block. This will split the ground and power wire from one wire into two or more so if you want to add another amp for the sub later it is already basically wired for you.
At least that's what I would do because if you don't upgrade now...you will in the future.
I loved my DB speakers and they sounded great with a class A/B amp and just off the head unit.Just a dude doing dude-ly things
