LSiM 702f/x on stands? wall-mount on rear wall? - advice?
I'm helping set up an HT system, 5.1 with all-LSiM speakers other than the sub (703, 704c, 702f/x).
The LSiM 702f/x speakers just arrived.
The instructions specify wall mounting, and does not discuss stand mounting even as an option.
Alas, the room is not very amenable to wall mounting.
There are windows on the sides of the room where the speakers would go for Polk's recommended placement for 5.1. So that's out.
There is just barely enough room at the edges of the rear walls to wall mount there. However, I don't think she wants to wall mount. Plus, the speakers would be touching or almost touching the side walls. Plus, in the instructions that's the placement for 7.1, not 5.1.
What do you folks recommend? Try to persuade that wall-mounting on the rear wall is best, or can they be stand-mounted?
If setting them up on stands is okay, what stands do you recommend, and what height, and what placement?
If wall mounted, how high should they be? (There is basically no flexibility left to right.)
Or are these speakers altogether wrong for this room? (I hope not!)
Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm no help, but misery loves company so...
I'm in the same situation in my new place. Bad setup for the surrounds. I've decided to mount mine on the back wall, also very close to the side wall, but not much of a choice.
I wouldn't think they would work well on stands due to their size/shape, but I suppose it could work.
As for height, I believe I had the bottom of the 702's at about 6'-6'6" in my last HT. Seemed to work well.Things work out best for those who make the best of the way things work out.-John Wooden -
I'd try like PSOVLSK suggests - 6' high on the back wall. The reflections off the side wall may actually be a benefit. The whole point of the design is to disperse sound all around the listener. Not many rooms allow for ideal placement. I've got one room with surrounds in a really crazy placement, but the effect is really not bad at all.

Thanks folks. There is 22-1/2 inches of horizontal space on the left and right sides of the back wall. So I guess they'll fit back there.
I'll talk to her tomorrow about wall-mounting them.
Which one goes on the left side, and which one on the right side, if wall-mounted to the rear wall? -
You want the tweeter pointing toward you - that's the rule. So whichever orientation allows that.

Thanks!
We'll see (and listen to) how this goes. -
Interested to hear how this goes, as I've been on the fence with 702's for several time now in a similar situation - no surround placement options other than stands, and rear placement is not best case.I disabled signatures.

How did this turn out?
