old friend back in rack

Hi, some of you guys know I have gone through some pre amplifiers w/ not the best of results. My Onkyo P-301 which I like had Monster Cable i/c grip 'o death and I pulled the port out of the rear. Next up was another Onkyo a P3150v basically the same pre just a bit different topography. Then P-Man comes over and gifts me this NAD 1020a and loved this machine. It lost a female port on the ledge which was already fixed so not my fault. Then P-Man leaves the overly complicated Sony TD-E2000 surround processor which has pre/outs and that was my pre. But wait there's more I also had a Dynaco Pat-4 which died on it's own and Frank Alstein the guy who mods all things Dynaco said it's not worth fixing and drown it in deoxit and that didn't work.
Audio Classics has been running an on line ad for a pristine NAD 1020a which I got today.
The only thing I am giving up is a remote and now that my knees work who cares. It listed for $99.00 and they threw in the shipping because I bought from them my Adcom 555. It's running right now ,all functions work and they know how to pack...

Everything but your speakers looks great, Lew.
P-man is just trying to gain your respect before he pulls the rug out from under you.

;) Keep on rockin' and glad to see you're back on your feet, buddy.
  • No doubt, I spoke to him a few weeks ago and he has speakers stashed away that he forgot about. I can't go through the list of what he owns that's his deal but I will tell you he is building a room just for vintage tunes. I like all my sets, w/ saying that I would ditch my 2Bs and a few others for a pair of walnut topped Vandersteen 3a sigs or some Ohm/Walsh 2XOs. they still need to fit the space. Another little story was he was so impressed w/ my DCM Time Frame 350s, After seeing a C/L ad and I couldn't move so I gave him the lead and he he bought a set of TF600s and loves um and still uses them. Thanks Russ

I think many of us have speakers we've forgotten about hiding in dark, dank corners ;)
