This article from Crutchfield might help. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0XCUESsHgUf/learn/learningcenter/home/speakers/inwall_placement.html
And this http://clearviewaudio.com/blogs/blog/12240893-are-in-wall-or-in-ceiling-speakers-any-good
I helped a friend install a in wall system and IMO I would never commit to one for critical music listening. Too many variables and you are stuck with one speaker in one position.

I have in ceiling for surrounds and zone 2 in multiple rooms, and they r fine for that purpose, but I agree that when I want to sit down and listen to music, I ain't going in living room zone 2.
I would recommend deft tech mythos on wall or something similar for fronts (if u need really small) and in ceiling for surrounds.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es
Game Room 5.1.4: Denon AVR-X4200w; Sony UBP-x700; Definitive Technology Power Monitor 900 mains, CLR-3000 center, StudioMonitor 350 surrounds, ProMonitor 800 atmos x4; Sub - Monoprice Monolith 15in THX Ultra
Bedroom 2.1 Harmon Kardon HK3490; Bluesounds Node N130; Polk RT25i; ACI Titan Subwoofer -
thanks for the feedback
