I owned a set of ADS towers like that a long time ago. I loved their sound too. I hated !!!!!! to sell them but needed the room and I owned much nicer speakers then and still today.
I almost didn't buy them due to NOT SEEING a yard sale sign. My wife saw a sign on one of our Sat. rounds of just going to certain sales I thought might be interesting for stereo stuff. Nancy said there's a sale back there on that street we just past. I said sure , what the heck. I quickly turned around and was at the sale in 2 min.. A bunch of junk up near the road but I said we turned around so lets get out and look closer. Nothing to see in all the junk up by the road but up IN the bushes at the house I spotted them and KNEW exactly what they were. They had Monster cable still hooked up to them and pin connectors at the other ends . The cable was green inside so I knew they were OLD style cables (junk). No price on them so I asked a young guy what they wanted for the speakers.
MOM..how much for dads' old speakers ? .....She yelled back....5.00 for the two.
I gave her 20.00 and the speakers had the metal grills on them that needed just a little TLC and all speakers worked fine.
One of my BLESSINGS FROM ABOVE for sure !! I almost bought another pair for 300.00 I think they were, but I just didn't have the money to buy a set of TIME WINDOWS ..AND...the second ( that I have seen in person and wanted to buy) set of BEAUTIFUL cherry cabinet ADS towers at the same time. That hurt my guts that day , leaving the ADS perfect towers behind.
I bought a set of L810,s years ago I believe for not much ( 40.00's I think from Salvation Army ) yes, I think that's correct, but one speaker has a crossover problem. I know all the speakers work, There's just a dead component in the crossover.I need to get on that and replace all the components! I took the one out but never bought new components. I wanted to get info from THIS forum again on as to what to replace what with it's newer brand without going into a lot of money. Just like before, a middle of the bunch quality replacement parts.
These have cloth grills though. I LOVE the metal ones. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them. -
Family Room, Innuos Statement streamer (Roon Core) with Morrow Audio USB cable to McIntosh MC 2700 pre with DC2 Digital Audio Module; AQ Sky XLRs to CAT 600.2 dualmono amp, Morrow Elite Speaker Cables to NOLA Baby Grand Reference Gold 3 speakers. Power source for all components: Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One with dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel.
Exercise Room, Innuos Streamer via Cat 6 cable connection to PS Audio PerfectWave MkII DAC w/Bridge II, AQ King Cobra RCAs to Perreaux PMF3150 amp (fully restored and upgraded by Jeffrey Jackson, Precision Audio Labs), Supra Rondo 4x2.5 Speaker Cables to SDA 1Cs (Vr3 Mods Xovers and other mods.), Dreadnaught with Supra Rondo 4x2.5 interconnect cables by Vr3 Mods. Power for each component from dedicated 20 amp circuit to main panel, except Innuos Statement powered from Silver Circle Audio Pure Power One. -
Have had some time now to get familiar with them and at this point I can think for the life of me of a pair of speakers I have ever heard that I would replace them with. (At least within twice the price I couldn't afford). The detail, presence, accuracy, and dynamic impact of each instrument is simply amazing. I think you can stick a fork in me as I am well done! Strongly recommend getting your ears on a pair if you can. Beautiful to boot.Main Rig:
