I'm only apologizing for derailing the thread. Lol

My only point is that quality gear deserves a quality source. Bluetooth in any capacity is taking a big step backwards. There is much better options, such as chromecast audio.

I know squat about Bluetooth audio and it's something I'll never use, but this topic got me a wee bit curious. Seems to be a lot of if, ands and buts about the format out there. This seemed to be one of the better bits of information, but only refers to the aptX version. Note, it is still a compressed format. All other versions appear to be greatly inferior.

CSR uses in their BT chips aptX codec with the following parameters (specs by CSR):
    Compression ratio: 4:1
    Audio Format: 16-bit, 44.1kHz
    Data Rates: 352kbps
    Frequency Response: 10Hz to 22kHz
    Algorithmic Delay: <1.89ms @ Fs 48KHz
    Dynamic Range: 16-bit: >92dB
    THD+N: -68.8dB

I have to say, there are SO many formats/codecs and SO many resolution levels available today that it's beyond ridiculous and results in folks basically chasing their tail. No thanks!

One other thing....I don't give a ratz a$$ about convenience. Why someone needs to have music with them 24/7 boggles the mind. There's a big world out there and you're missing a lot of it.

I've just dipped my toes in the bluetooth pool over the past couple weeks. I picked up an Audioengine B1 that does the aptx and it's earned a spot in my main rig. No it's not cd quality but it's certainly listenable. My main use for it is music while I'm on the stairstepper for 45 minutes every day. It's a terribly boring exercise and several of my cd's aren't 45 minutes long. Fm radio around here is terrible so that narrows it down to the smartphone and bluetooth. To me the convenience more than makes up for the not so great sound.

Spotify, Pandora, tidal, hi rez, no new interface to learn, just press connect with one click in your music app and enjoy. It really doesn't get easier than chromecast audio. You can even connect without being connected to Wi-Fi, if you want. Also Bluetooth is very limited in range, where the chromecast audio goes as far as your Wi-Fi. It's only $35 bucks and has a optical out to bypass it's dac. B)

    Will do.

    Sent you a pm.

I want the best of both worlds, good sound but also convenience.

    Gotta balance it out.

Can't have a tube preamp in the living room, definitely NO tube amps in the living room. The system has to look good because of WAF. And the wife dictates what goes into this room because technically it's no longer mine.

So, I have to appease her.

Which I don't mind at all, it's actually nice for once that she wants me to set up the system.

I think I will go for the Rotel.

I am just trying to decide whether I go with:

    1. Rotel RA1590

    Or

    2. Rotel RC1590+RB1590

And then I gotta decide silver or black... lol.

I have attached the console pic from Restoration Hardware.

Some pics... RA1592 in black and silver.

    RC1590/RB1590 in black or silver.

Gotta decide soon... wife's on my butt for this one.

Spend the extra and have it sitting out of the console? Or spend less, keep it in the console but sacrifice some sound?9bbmray6o2rz.jpg

Me too I like the silver... just not sure how it will look with a black iron looking media console... trying to picture it, squinting my eyes.

I just checked out Chromecast audio and I'm thinking that's going to be replacing my bluetooth very soon. It sounds like it's as easy to use as BT but much better sound quality. Thanks for the tip and I sure wish I'd done my wireless homework first.

Black is more sinister. And it matches the media console.

My worry is silver will stick out.

But on its own, silver looks really slick too.

Go with the black Joey, the silver would draw too much attn. The focus should be on the music/movies.
