Saw those pal.....who the heck wants Wi-Fi on their micro and range. I don't want my cell phone connected to either....or my fridge, dishwasher, toilet, you name it.

You should know me better than that by now. lol

I have noticed though some inherit flaws in todays ranges, particularly those with electronics on the front. A lot of brands I saw with all the electronics on the front, are right over the oven door where all the heat is venting out. That doesn't spell longevity to me. For what it would cost to replace control boards in those electronics, makes them throw aways.

BTW....only took me about 2 hours to remove and install the new micro. Is yours venting outside ? Why so long ? It's just a matter of installing the new bracket on the back wall with the pattern they give you and drilling 2 new bolt holes in the above cabinet.

She wants another one, ok I guess... but what's different about the new ones that will allow storage on the countertop without taking up the same amount of space of the one she gave away because it took up too much space on the countertop?

    Yep, happy wife=happy life Mission:Impossible ;)
So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    speaking of kitchen appliances :)

I saw a profoundly odd thing last night drivin' home from Boston.
A late-model nice-ish Mercedes sedan pullin' a small trailer with a range strapped to it.

Now, it wasn't an S-class, but it was a nice, shiny white M-B.
And it wasn't even, like, a six-burner commercial Viking. It was a pretty prosaic-looking standard suburban kitchen oven-range.

Have you ever seen a Benz pullin' a utility trailer?

I mean, most Benz drivers have people to perform menial tasks such as that.

The rest of them would have a truck, too.

    Struck me as most odd.

Cha ching.....my setiments exactly. If I go buy another one, 2 years down the road she'll be giving that one away too. I think relatives will just hoover around every 2 years to see what they can scarf up.

My wife hates clutter, a minimalist at heart. Of course this begs to question....how long before I'm considered "clutter" ? :)

I was just talking to the manager at one of out local selling spots about the same thing. He also stated he will tell most buyers to not use the clean function after the warranty period. A lot of them vent all the heat 900+ degrees under the master board and 90% of the time those boards fail soon after a cleaning and that board cost hundreds of dollars to replace.

I dunno, Tony and pittdog ... how are you going to know if you're low on milk or butter if you're refrigerator can't talk to your range and your microwave and your cellphone ? How can one possibly know ? And, more importantly, how will authorities be able to oversee milk production if they don't know ? ;)

Looooong story short: we were going to vent outside, but the vent vertical location (rectangular) was too high. Got in the attic and the way they had gone from rectangular to round was ... fugged up. I'm good at sheet metal work, but no access to circle cutter, etc. so we went with the recirc mode.
Instructions said to drill a hole in the bottom of the cabinet, and run the power cord through the cabinet (?!). No way. Went with putting in a new hidden hospital grade receptacle, which led to taking out some dry wall. That led to the beginning of a host of comments of "WTF were they thinking ?" regarding the wiring 'situation".
More drywall out, re-ran wiring.... I can't stand it when "electricians" use bent over brad nails to secure wiring.
.... and on and and and on.
But like all things we build/install, when it's done, it'll be bulletproof.
You could use our TV mount to pull a motor out of a bus. I don't know how you'd get a bus in our family room, you'll have to figure that out yourself. :)
BTW: if installing anything that tells you to use toggle bolts, use Togglers. Oh such much better.

You have already been classified as clutter, long ago I'm sure. With that said, who will she ask a new mixer from every 2-5 years if you're not around?

Dan, Dan Dan.....how long have you known me now ? Wine doesn't last long enough to get warm in my house. I'm at Binny's like 3 times a week. Wine cooler....lmao. I've got a big wine cooler in the Kitchen, it's called a fridge. Another one downstairs for the over flow.

In case you wino's didn't know, even Cabs should be chilled to 58 degrees. You'll taste more when it is verses room temp.

Absolutely, I've learned my lesson on those self cleaning functions long ago, an expensive lesson. As it is, I never use those functions even during the warranty period. I just do it the old fashioned way.

Why ? Read the fine print on your warranty. They won't cover cosmetics. So if the glass on the oven gets that grease backed into it, your out of luck. If the stove becomes discolored from the high heat, too bad. If the enamel on the inside starts peeling, your on your own. It's best to not even use that function. I've ruined one stone by using it and I've read about others who cracked the oven glass, screwed up the insulation on the door, even cracked the top glass of the stove top and burnt up electronics.

Why take that risk for a few minutes of good old fashioned cleaning ?

    BBL,
Looking at Fridges, I went to open the door on one and music started playing. I kind of liked it....until I thought about it. The Grandkids will sit there with the door open constantly to hear the music. Not really an energy saving feature is it.

My stove is Wi-Fi enabled, for what ? Like I'm going to have it on when I'm not home ? Micro's....Fridges with lcd screens and camera's so you can see what's in it from your smart phone. HUH....I know whats in my fridge without opening the door. Gee....I wonder how many beers I have left. Who cares, buy another case anyway.....and if your worried about spending the money for a case of beer, you can't afford the Fridge with the camera in it anyway then.

Man, does this generation want to do anything without their phones ? Open the garage door, start your car, view who's ringing the door bell, see whats in the fridge, turn on lights and lock doors, start the dishwasher, see what the dog is doing when your at work. Order food, get your milk delivered or have Amazon drop of your goodies. Track those kids after school, have a drone follow you to take really cool selfies. WHAT ??

You've got way too much time on your hands then, get a second job. ;)

LOL... I somewhat figured that may be the case, but you never know.....

Then get her the damned mixer lol.... we have like 50 million kitchen things my wife NEVER uses (2 diff size crock pots, I'm sure we will get another smaller one just for the hell of it, rice cookers, mixers...)....

She never uses them, but like you I'd bet MONEY on the fact if I got rid of one of them that next day she'd go looking for it to make X

Fwiw we have one of those mixers we bought the higher end one with metal movements as opposed to plastic. We bought ours on black Friday plus they had seniors discount so I got my dad to pick it up. We use it maybe a dozen times a year. But it works very well.
