  • I followed Leon's career for decades and am a HUGE fan of what he brought to Freddie King's Shelter recordings--which are timeless blues masterpieces.

    RIP my friend.
  • Wow, bad news.I had the chance to see him when he was the band leader of Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs tour and was the 1st time I saw a guy multi task. He played a baby grand piano, and then strapped on a old Black Les Paul. More recently I saw him open for Hot Tuna playing only a white baby Yamaha and then he opened for them again a year later and sounded great. He looked frail walked w/ a cane when walked otherwise used a scooter to get around. Besides all that I just played a Glen Campbell album and he produced a few of the songs. To end this there was a Joe Bonamasa concert from the Greek Theater in L.A. on MTV LIVE and he ended the show w/ a long incredibly beautiful version of Hummingbird.

Yea..sadly another one gone...Saw the show that would become the Leon Live recordings in 1973 in Murfreesboro Tn by a stroke of luck..Friend had tickets and laid em on me cause he couldn't make it...That band he had with Rev.Patrick Henderson and Black Grass included a lot of the Mad Dogs too...gotta be one of the best show bands ever put together...Non stop from beginning to end...
  • Sad news for sure. Met him at a festival I played in 2002 at the Capitol in St Paul Mn and what a fun cat to hand with for the short time I was able to. Been listening to his stuff all day.
