Rifle seen 37 deer on the drive to the lake they are in rut

Hoping to get another Trifecta just waiting for my dad to get ready he's been packing for hours. I just took my last civilized shower the shack should be good and ripe by Tuesday when a few have time go to the polls me I'm staying in the woods for 8 days thanks for absentee ballots.

The only time i've ever seen 37 deer in a drive was when i was passing the dealership.

Well day 4 in the woods one deer has been bagged lots of lucky ones have crossed my path I'm only out for racks. I and my Grandson are alone every one went in to vote and shower I'm smelling not good will have to heat up lake water to clean my self. Timberwolves have been spotted and I kicked up something big but it was to dark as soon as it's light and I can see something. I will just sit here and think pure thoughts.

I know I want a pair of Monitor 7s with the peerless Tweeters after hearing my buddies the other night. I miss my Wife Snot my dog and all the tunes, it sure is peaceful out here. If no big bucks are bagged today then I guess we are after meat tomorrow gotta fill tags.

I hunt CT and MA. Haven't seen anything yet but only been bow hunting. Gun season opens the 15th in CT and the 28th in MA. This is my 15 year old's first season hunting (bow and gun), Although he hasn't seen anything yet he has had a great time.

VT had a kids' (deer) hunting weekend this past week. The kids have to have safety training (and maybe some sort of license; that I am not sure of), and be accompanied by an (unarmed) adult... but there no restrictions on the size/type of deer that the kids can take.

The knock-on is that the state wildlife biologists thus get real data on the deer population that they'd otherwise not get (i.e., does, young bucks, etc.) from the normal hunting regulations.

I dunno Steve....I see Coke....fertilizer...cleaning supplies...and an extension cord. You going hunting with rifles or blowing them up ? No wonder you only come home with Antlers, that's about all that's left after the boom.

Day 8 in the woods this stand is known as Buck Palace the farthest stand in the swamps heck the 4 wheeler can't make it so I park it and walk through the dark some 35 minutes to get to it here's a couple of pics. My Grandson had the shot of a lifetime a big 10 pointer payed him a visit at dusk last night he swears he hit it but we tracked it in the dark for a hour and had to leave it gets pretty effing scary out here after dark. I will be enjoying this beautiful scenery while waiting one out, a few have been taken but we still have tags to fill. I think I need a shower something fierce.

Heck, we ain't got cell reception at most spots on our property, to say nothing of out in the woods here.

Out of 17stands 3 we can get cell phone reception on Verizon does have a tower in Bemidji the one I'm in his high enough if I get on the ground no reception.

An old guy told me to always wait at least half an hour in your stand after shooting a deer before you get down and start to track it because a wounded deer will often lay down and die if not pushed, but if you begin to track it right away they will keep running as far as they can to keep ahead of you, often beyond what you are able or willing to go. (If its a kill shot, waiting for half an hour won't matter anyway, as they won't go far before dropping; it really matters if its a good shot but its not going to drop right away.) Last year one of my party gut shot a monster buck at dusk and we didn't try to track it until dawn. It had gone a ways and laid down and ended up dying at that spot even though it wasn't the cleanest shot. If we had tried to track it in the dark we would have never got it as it could've run a long way if forced. The temperature was low enough to keep meat cool so finding it at dawn wasn't a problem.

^That is especially true for archery. You are not supposed to get down for at least 30-60 minutes.

The Minnesota trip was successful got my venison back 3/4 freezer full some good eats. I thought about going again yesterday and today but with the blizzard like conditions and the -25 below windchill Temps we are experiencing will sit this one out eat some venison jerry watch football listen to tunes then after the Temps climb to the -1 high for today I will get the snowblower out!

Cripes Steve! Just leave the meat outside and save electricty! I was planning a trip out there next month. Might have to wait until spring.
