Anybody own this unit? I was planning to get the Ionic Breeze but the Oreck just move a lot more air. I saw the infomercial late at night and now I'm seriously considering it. What do you guys think about this one?

A friend of mine got the upgraded version of the Ionic Breeze(with the GP - Germacidal Protection - stuff) and has really liked it.

The purpose of these types of units isn't to 'move air' otherwise just go with a 20" industrial oscillating fan to blow ya (over). ;)Looks like the Oreck moves enough air for a 900 sq. ft. room where the Ionic is for a 500 sq. ft. room. The biggest issue for me would be noise. I haven't ever heard the Oreck, but you wouldn't know that the Ionic's are on unless you plugged them in yourself.

Really quick I skimmed that Oreck site and what does it mean to have a "Permanent Filter with 12 year Guarantee." That doesn't make sense to me. Sounds like if the filter goes, you have a permanently bad unit.....lol

Those Ionic's are pretty small if you haven't ever seen them in person, but the GZ is a bit larger (more expensive too).

Both have the "2nd unit half off" offer, so that seems pretty fair.....

Thanks for the help Brett. I've seen the Ionic Breeze at a store once and it was moving quite a bit of air but not even close to the Oreck that was shown on TV. That old Oreck dude is very serious about his stuff it's funny:). I'm sure my basement is larger than 500sq ft so I'm thinking the Oreck might be a better unit for me. Oreck claims the unit is silent with their 'silence technology' and the 5 stage filtration system is a turn on for me. They use a charcoal filter also which needs replacement but I'm sure the charcoal is not needed because it also produces ions to provide the clean smell.

Not sure about the 12 year warranty. Sounds pretty damn good though. I'm sure even the ionic breeze would fail too if the filter is broken. I'm sure they were referring to the metal plates which completes the electrical circuit.

So how did the ionic breeze make your friend's room smell? Does it really provide that clean, spring rain smell?

It's been a while since I've been over to his place, but I do remember the place smelling better (he has a cat).

There is no filter to change/replace with the Ionic. You just have to keep wiping off the metal plates. They do sell replacement metal grids for like $40 bucks or somethin like that, but not sure what the reasoning would be for why you'd need to have a second set on hand.

What's odd about the Ionic is that it's completely see through from front to back, zero moving parts, and air still moves...cool technology though.

I don't know the specifics on how often you have to clean the metal plates of the Ionic, but I assume that has to do with the environment that it's in. If I remember correctly, my friend had to do it about once a week, so nothing too outta control.

Personally, I'm for using a dust rag and saving myself $350......

I'll have to think about it. I just remembered that you get the smaller ionic breeze for free when you purchase the big one. So that combination might be enough for the basement. Thanks

That freebie is touted as a Bathroom Ionic, so I wouldn't count on it cleaning a very large area......

Ouch! This is going to be tough. I still have a lot of time because the color I want from Oreck is out of stock. Time to do some more research:).

My neighbor bought one of the model sump'n er udder 8 units and now is bugging me to death to get one. The man is eat up with it. Anyway, they must make pretty good air cleaners. :)

He discovered that if you do the local dealer search on the Oreck website, some local stores have printable coupons and inventory in stock. They will also deal on the units. He told me he could get the one like he has (I think 349 or so on the website) for 170. That's what HE said. :)
    Whut?

The way it works has been around for many years, Norelco made them ages ago. I don't recall any customers disliking them, and the maint. is the real payoff.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Don't spend too much money on an air ionizer! I have a couple of these in my home and I LOVE them. I'm only out about $100 too, so more money for DVD's. :D

Thanks a lot for the help guys.

If I can find a nearby Oreck dealer, I may go there to see what kind of deal they could give me.

I can vouch for the neo-tech stuff as well. i was looking into the ionic breeze when I saw that brand. i saw reviews saying it was better than the overpriced ionic breeze and considering i got them for like 20-30 bucks on ebay i had to try.

they work great. don't buy into the brand name. i don't think air ionization is complicated technology, so there's no need to spend hundreds of dollars.

i don't know about the stay alert, sleep better stuff, but its great for air cleaning and getting rid of odors. I love to use it in the kitchen after cooking, clears out the food smell in no time.

Well, the "sleep better, stay alert" type claims are pretty subjective. I can say that they've helped out with my allergies (3 cats in the house) and eliminating odors (we've got one perched right over the litter box too). They are VERY quiet. You can only hear a hissing sound if you get right up to the unit.

I also think that three feet might be a little too close, but they're easy to move around so give it a shot. Good luck!
