thoughts on Rectiliear low boys

Since I did go back to my Adcom GFS-6 selector I have one slot still open. There is a listing for some early '70s Rectilinear Low Boys that were originally made in the Bronx not to far from my very old neighborhood. According to the guy they are in great shape all tweeters, whizzers and woofers work and I think the woofers are some kind of treated waffle paper or cloth but not foam. Ad says $60 of course I'll try to low ball and since all the other speakers are way out of my range like Vandersteen 2ci or Ohm/Walsh 2xo I still have to go w/ the bargains. Yes I can hear them and take of the grills for inspection.
Rectilinears are not mentioned here all that often and were in the same competitive boat as Dalhquists, EPI, AR, Scott,Jensen and the like.

Dude, if you saved your money up for a while instead of buying all those mediocre speakers, you could afford the Vandersteens or Ohms. Just a thought, it's your coin.
If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money.

Yes that's one way of looking at it. In my situation I will never have enough and by the time I actually did I'd be dead. So I'd rather get some speakers that were rated ok back in the day and again cheap enough for me to go after. One day I just might have a clearance sale but not likely. Also I will listen to them ,if they don't do it for me then I' just took a 20 minute car ride.

my thought is I hope they sound better than they look cause they're fugly.

I'm with Decal on this one. there are very nice speakers out there for little coin, and if you're like me they ALWAYS come up after I spent what little i had on something else.

ivan , Up close these are really good looking speakers. If they were on proper stands and were alone and not with my Wall Of Sound you might think a bit differently about these. Just the construction and lattice work on the grills are better than most vintage speakers out there. Hey like art itself looks are subjective and to me they look great and sound even better.
Because I will never get the full effective use of my 2Bs they might be the next set to go. I don't know if you noticed many people have moved on from them for various reasons.
Show me a better speaker with in my driving range of an hour each way and spending no more than $60. These werew5sqxnvq137f.jpg
    $50. Have fun looking.
