Dared SL-2000A

I've thought long and hard over this but I've decided my other wants and needs trump my keeping this. It's in very nice condition, no issues at all. I have the original box and I'm pretty sure that I have the manual. This is the version with the wooden remote.

Included is everything you will need to keep you entertained:

Pre w/remote and stock cable

(2) Brimar rectifiers
(1) Sylvania rectifier

(2) Mullard M8162 CV4024
(2) Psvane 12at7
(2) Sylvania gp (1956)
(2) GE 12at7

The Mullards,Psvane, and Sylvania tubes were all bought here. There's about $250 in just tubes here. Pics upon request.

$475 shipped.

I've bought one, sold one, regretted selling it and then bought it back.

I'm hoping not to sell it again.

It's quite the budget piece. Highly recommended. Goes without saying a great way to get into the tube sound for not much coin.

Somebody looking to get into a tube preamp should hop on this, and you'll be set for tubes.

If anyone is interested in the Psvane or Sylvania tubes I'll sell them separately and bring down the price if that's holding anyone up. The Brimar's and Mullard's will stay with the unit in case it stays with me.

After I bought Paul's and sold it back to him I did pick up another one, this preamp is nicely paired with many amps but I use it wit the the Dared VP-300B 9 wpc Mono-Blocks and my full range speakers.

Since I got mine I've wondered how the SL-2000A sounds compared to the MC-7P.

$450. I have really had no time to listen. I've probably put a combined 20 hours on the tubes.

Buy with confidence as Dave will most likely buy it back from you in the future. He's owned atleast 3 maybe 4 Dared SL-2000A's!

Sold. I'll be posting the left over tubes shortly. If anyone has any interest let me know.
  • I would love to find one of these Dared preamps. We used to have one but it got damaged in a move several years ago and I guess we discarded it. I have spent several tens of thousands on audio gear but this humble little preamp was probably my favorite thing I ever owned.

They don't seem to make them any more, which seems nuts to me. Lots of Chi-fi tube gear seems overly warm and fat, but the Dared was utterly neutral, it just smoothed everything out and got a little air under the wings while remaining deadly accurate. I just replaced the tubes and put a better fuse in there and used decent cables, and it delivered just the right goods even though some audiophiles didn't think it was nearly high-end enough. Build quality was flawless and bombproof; the only thing I remember was that the remote volume control was way too fast!

Also, it was utterly perfect for running a DAC into, as most DACs don't have quite enough grunt to push a typical power amplifier. Anyone who has a Dared SA2000 for sale, feel free to PM me.
