After my little oops with speaker wire taking out my hdmi on receiver,i was looking at picking up a used pioneer sc1227k which if I understand correctly is the elite sc 63 without the elite badge. Problem is there is no calibration mic with it. I I checked and havent found the part number. I am.awaiting a response from pioneer. Does anyone know where to get one or have one lying around that they dont need? I have the one from the pioneer vsx 9040 txh but it is not compatible

Even with the correct mic, your going to want to tweak the settings anyway. Those calibration modes don't always get it right no matter what you do, they aren't spot on perfect.
The house needs to be dead quiet though, and the mic at ear level in your listening position. If that's on a couch, stack some pillows or books to get the mic to ear level if a tri-pod isn't available to you. Make sure nothing else that makes noise is on too, like a fridge or furnace kicking on, lawn mowers or weed wackers going on outside, etc.
Take the pre amp out of the equation but do use the amp. The gain settings on the amp shouldn't matter but I'd back it off from max a bit just in case some distortion is introduced to the signal. Take care of any ground loop or hum issues you may have before running the calibration program too. Once you start the program, get your rear end out of the way too, go in another room for a few minutes and be quiet. That will give you the most accurate readings but you still will want to adjust some things to your preferences.HT SYSTEM-

My normal procedure is to have the mic on a tripod with two cushions and a piece of plywood under the tripod(i guess the plywood could be considered a reflective surface). I turn off the furnace (forgot to turn it back on once...made for a very chilly morning the next day) and unplug the freezer in the room beside the listening area. The fridge is on another floor, as is dishwasher but dishwasher needs to be off as you can hear the vibrations. Honestly, the preamp hasn't been an issue at all (getting the same volumes with it in and out of circuit and normally it will be in circuit, thus I calibrate it that was...no way wife would be willing to switch wiring to preamp and amp depending on whether music or movie!). I scoot out of the room when running mcacc. The only wildcard is the kids! I try to have them out of house or on another floor...but that not always work, they hear weird test tones from the speakers and want to know what going on!
I am thinking that the volume difference between the Lsim 705 and 706 regardless of whether the avr or amp driving them is due to a higher load when using the towers.

Taking the pre amp out of the equation is only for calibration, not permanently.HT SYSTEM-

Is there a chance having it out of equation during calibration might affect the results once it hooked back up into signal path...forgot. I use it to connect to the dual subs....although the pioneer has dual sub output posts I thinklsim705,lsim706c,lsif/x(4)+mc80(atmos)

Mic arrived quicker than I thought it would! Interesting it is thr denon model dm-s205. I checked with seller and they said this denon model is compatible with mine. Makes sense as pio and denon share lots of components from what I hear. Now have to find some time to calibrate againlsim705,lsim706c,lsif/x(4)+mc80(atmos)
