Polk rti12
Hello fellas. Hope everyone is doing good. I recently got the Rti12 for $450 a pair. The speakers are rated 500watts. it's said Polks are power demanding speakers. I bi-amped them with Emotiva UPA 500 80 watts channel and Carver mt-1.5 350watts channel. I fed the treble and midrange with the Emotiva and fed the Woofers with the Carver. Any suggestions as to what I did right or wrong? Or I would have to get an amplifier that can pump 500 watts. Also with my connection, am I feeding it with 430 watts as each amp stated? Thank you

forget bi-amping. what they need is good current. The Emotiva amps can be very bright IMO so using it on the highs would be a no go for me. Parasound and B&K amps tend to be a little warmer and can tame the brightness of some speakers like the RTi12.

As a rule Polk Audio speakers are not power demanding, with the exception of the RTi12's/RTi9's, it does take a lot of current as stated above to load those three woofers.
The 12's tweeters are voiced more for a HT application, they are hot. pitdog2's recommendations are spot on, get an amp that has some balls and is not "Hot" or bright, but a little more on the laid back side.

Mike Reeter the sound is amazing but it clips at high volume as compared to when I use the rtia6 as the fronts.

I am currently using Sony E9000Es processor. Samsung 3d Blu-ray Player, Mac mini for my media center and Alesis Deq 830 digital spectrum equalizer. Someone came to buy a Klipsch subwoofer from me and upon seeing the Polks, he asked for a demo. He was speechless. The sound was full and amazing image. Yes the highs were kinda bright though but with the Svs ultra , it was good. Accidentally, my cousin too showed up and I turned off the Svs sub and they both couldn't believe I turned the sub off. But I will need a recommendation as to which amp to buy. I was thinking of Sunfire but my budget now, I can't afford it till I save towards it. secondly, I had a chance of grabing Lexicon Mc-12 unbalanced but was kinda skeptical. Take the Emo out of the equation, just use the Carver. Also, pay little attention to those "recommended watts" numbers on the back of speakers. Speakers thrive on current, not watts, which is represented in the "amperes peak to peak" number you'll see in stats on amps. Make sure you put the jumpers back on the speakers when only using the one amp....unless you have bi-wire cables.
Additionally, a little control with that volume dial will save you from replacing tweeters or burnt crossover parts in the near future. Turning it up enough to clip the amp is not good for the amp or speakers.HT SYSTEM-

Im running my RTi12's with 125 watts from a Marantz receiver (NON Bi-amped) just with these speakers at first, and my max volume is about 70% +/-, then added a PSW505 12" sub, and then CSI-A6 Center, still max listing vol is around 70% +/- AND they sound great, especially with movies with action scenes, smooth jazz music is also pretty awesome... Love these Polk speakers...
I am think of bi-amping the mids/highs with another channel on the receiver?
Looking at getting Polk surround speakers, dont know on which model to get, FXi-A6 or 265-RT's and also was thinking of RTi-9's or 7's for the rear speakers!!

Waste of time. You may if fact DECREASE the amount of power going to the speakers that way. You only have one power supply in there and it only has so much to give. Most receivers rated at 125wpc in fact are down to 50wpc with more than 2ch driven.
Welcome to Club Polk by the way.

Pitdogg2 - Thanks, I love the way it sounds now, so with your and others on the web, given the same advice, I wont bi-amp my RTi12's.....Marantz SR 7009 Receiver

Curtis,
That is good to read. I have the RTi12s and the RTi6s, along w/ the CSiA6 center, too. Outlaw LFM1-EX sub. Absolutely love them/the combo, too. I initially ran the system with my Yamaha RX-A2030 AVR, and I thought it sounded great. Eventually succumbed to "suggestions" that it would sound even better if I had an amp powering the front 12s. So, I bought a 30-year old Yamaha M-65. I love that too, though, I am not sure of the ACTUAL incremental improvement in audio quality (am not really an "educated" audiophile--just love good sound!).
So, a friend recently asked me to help him achieve a similar quality of sound in his HT, and you probably know the uncertainty that accompanies advising a friend how to spend a couple of thousand dollars, all on faith. So he ordered a Denon AVR-X4100W receiver, and a pair of RTiA9s and CSiA6 from A4L, AND the PSW505 sub (he did not want to spend the $600 for his sub, as I did). Will be buying my pair of NHT SuperOnes for his surrounds.
Hopefully with the Audyssey Multi-EQ 32 capability of the Denon, we will be able to create the quality of sound that you and I enjoy with our setups!Jim
