Pass Aleph 30

I'm letting go of a lot of good stuff boys and girls so keep a look out. Everything is going (no more 2-channel for me) except my SDA-CRS+.

Next up is my Pass Aleph 30. Class A all the way through. 30wpc @ 8 ohms. There is one small nick on the top plate but other than that, it looks fantastic. The only other thing to note is that the previous owner might have tried to tighten the binding posts with something metal. It doesn't look bad at all but you can see teeth marks from something.

Very fun read here about this amp: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/the-pass-aleph-30-or-how-i-learned-to-stop-worrying-and-love-the-amp.449608/

Also, the owners manual which gives a little peak into Nelson Pass' mind: https://passlabs.com/sites/default/files/a30manr0.pdf

Bottomline, it sounds fantastic and was designed with a lot of love. It powered my SDA-CRS+'s beautifully.

It runs very hot so probably not the greatest amp if kids are around. I have 3 myself but this stayed in my office.

Pricing this at $900 (PayPal gift) plus actual shipping. It's big and heavy so I'd estimate $100 for shipping + plus materials (it will be packed properly by a local shop I trust to ensure it arrives safely)

Very nice..............this is one you will regret getting rid of down the road.

But, I do understand having to move gear along. It happens. Mine will never leave even if I move up the Pass chain.

One of the sweetest sounding and ballsy amps I've heard. Don't let the 30wpc fool you.

This one is SOLD! Thanks Kerry.

Brock, yeah it's not a good feeling knowing that one of these will be almost impossible to track down when I am eventually back on the market. I bought it based on your recommendation and its great reputation. I'm glad to pass it on to a good guy.

Kerry, be sure to power it up a good hour or 2 before attempting your first listen. You will be rewarded. Right on power up it's a bit closed in a just a tad dark.

I always make this suggestion for people who may not have listened/owned single ended Class A gear. I always power up atleast 1 hour before listening.

It's part of the ritual owning this type of gear. It's not at all unlistenable at power up, just a little flat compared to when it's been powered up a couple hours.

I've heard others suggest leaving this on continuously, any thoughts on that?

    No problem, winter's coming...

It gets hot. It will raise my living room temp 2-3* in the Winter and 4-6* in the Summer. Plus it draws a constant 200 wpc and most of that is dissipated in heat. If left on 24/7 you will see a slight increase in your electric bill, not a lot...........maybe $3-5 month. Think of it as running (4) 100w light bulbs constantly as far as energy consumption.

I'd be more concerned with the heat. If it ends up not bothering you, then sure leave it on all the time. I have a smallish living room and in the hot Summer months it's an issue.

It's designed to run hot and the on-sink semiconductors are only running at 30% their rated thermal capacity. No issues with the amp leaving it on. Just if the heat or energy consumption bothers you.

If he keeps his house at 63*, he'll appreciate the heat of the Aleph. I suppose in a large great room with cathedral ceilings the heat might be a minor issue and be well dissipated.

Lowest I go in the Winter is 66*, except our upstairs is usually around 60* for sleeping.

As of now it'll be driving either the Ushers or Tylers. I don't see the Vandeesteens making the cut. Was hoping to make it to Skips bash to get my ears on the MD2's but that didn't work out. Still looking for my speaker destination.
