Oops

So I just mounted my RT3s on new mounts last night for surround sound duty and apparently I didn't get one tight enough. It just fell from the ceiling. It looks like the only damage is that the magnets came off the drivers. Can I just put the magnets back in place and all is good? It looks like there was epoxy so if I need to re-epoxy is there a recommendation for epoxy type? Thanks.

If it is just the bucking magnet (black donut) and not the main magnet (silver puck), epoxy will work fine. The bucking magnet is a reverse polarity magnet mounted onto the back of the main structure so that the speaker can be used close to CRT monitors of the past. If the main magnet came off, then voice coil damage is most likely to have happened in the fall.

Unfortunately, it was the main magnets that came off.

I put the magnets back in place and everything seems to be working properly. I'm also not sure I could even get them off now to put epoxy on them.

No luck, it's definitely not working correctly. Anyone have an RT3 to sell?? :|

You might be able to buy just the driver from Polk, call them. 1.800.377.POLK (7655)

You'd need to rig up a jig to put the magnet back on while keeping the voice coil aligned, it's not as trivial as just putting the magnet back on.

Ah, that explains it then. It is "working" , but not as well as it should. I am going to call Polk tomorrow, but I don't expect much as these are rather old speakers. They have surprised me before though.

They still make tweeters and midwoofers for speakers even older than those, you never know.

Hope so. I get higher frequencies out of the mid woofer but none of the lows.

On the off chance that they don't have replacement parts, anyone have a recommendation for replacement speakers to pair with a pair of TL'ed SDA 2Bs and CSi400 center? I looked, and it doesn't seem like RTL3s are too prevalent.

    How about Monitor 4.6's?
