"Juror No. 4, a retired lawyer and teacher, appeared to be the center of controversy on the panel after making what looked like an "OK" sign with her right hand as she entered the courtroom earlier on Friday"

Get a copy of 12 Angry Men and watch it. Not only does it have a stellar cast (Henry Fonda, Lee J. Cobb, Ed Begley, Sr., E.G. Marshall, Jack Klugman, Jack Warden, Martin Balsam), it is an excellent movie and study of the workings of a jury. I am a firm believer that if a single juror feels that their judgement is correct, even if it is totally opposed to the remaining jurors, they should not be swayed against their judgement. That is the way the system is designed and for all of its faults...it is still the best system for "Criminal" trials. There is an old saying that it is better to let 99 guilty men go free than to convict 1 innocent man. IF this lady juror is the lone dissenter and IF (and I would rather give her the benefit of doubt than assume she is on the take) she truly believes they are innocent then all the persuading and badgering should not change her mind. JMO

PS: My wife and I have both been on criminal jurys. She on a "battered wife" murder case and I on a weapons charge that was part of a murder of a young man during a $1 robbery. They are not fun! My wife was actually sequestered and it was a very tough case. And in my case I have actually gotten to know the mother and sisters of the young man who was murdered since one of the sisters plays on my daughter's volleyball team.
