    I saw that story last nite.... what a shame... he was awesome... I'm a NY Mets/SW FL transplant fan and I LOVED watching him pitch... He made it back from TJ surgery :(

    I was a bit shocked at hearing this; not sure what difference it makes at this point though. The next "report" will undoubtedly have him behind the wheel at the time of the accident too.
    So, are you willing to put forth a little effort or are you happy sitting in your skeptical poo pile?

    Two other persons lost their lives as well. If this cokehead was piloting the boat it's important to know these facts in order to sue his estate for his negligence.

    It might not matter to most, but a couple of families might view things differently.
    Good point, I had not considered that. But since no one survived and no witnesses, it may be impossible to say for sure who was at fault, at least to a jury.

    They can always sue the Marlins organization...

    there are only three who know for sure they ain't talking. I agree with polrbehr except for suing the Marlins. They didn't hold his face to the mirror or dump alcohol down his throat. so I didn't hear did all three get tested?

    * I should've added a "wink" after that...
    A few days after the accident, I heard that they gave Fernandez the day off on Sunday (even though he was supposed to pitch against Atlanta) so he could go against the Mets on Monday. The game was meaningless for the Marlins, but I guess they wanted to play spoiler to the Mets? And so it cost them their ace, no matter what else he may have been, he was a great pitcher who will be missed by them.

    A great pitcher and athlete, for sure. But it always surprises me that people are shocked in these situations that "celebrity so and so" was drunk, or high or whatever. I am not a cynic, but until proven otherwise I always assume the worst and hope for the best in these situations. Not to get too philosophical but as a society we tend to idolize celebrities because of how much money they make or how good they are at their craft - and then project that to mean that they must be a good person. We ALL have our problems -some major and others minor no matter how good we are or how much money we make. It's a tragedy that three young men lost their lives - and an even bigger tragedy knowing that a multitude of poor decision making factors (darkness, high speed, irresponsible operation of a boat, and alcohol and drug use) contributed to it. By all accounts, Fernandez was engaging and popular with the fans but I wonder if that is now tainted considering what happened. It doesn't change my opinion only because he was a JUST a good baseball player to me. For others it seems he was a lot more.......and that in itself is sad
