It's a shame that AM And FM is so mediocre nowadays.
That is an impressive and rare piece, it is one of the best tuner Sansui ever made, no corners were cut.

The integrated amp of that line was equally great AU-X1 :)

I owned an AU-X1 in the early 80's. I wasn't in love with it.

man that tuner is the holy grail of tuners. Folks over at FMTUNERINFO.COM just oooze on themselves every time one comes up on the selling sites. I would love to get ears on one but like cortico stated radio just sucks nowadays. I always like my Sansui tuners I have the Tu-719 at the moment.

Can't blame you for letting the TU-X1 go for a cool three grand. I'd love to have one but not at that price. I have a TU-9900 that sounds great. Looks cool too. Bought it from a Polkie a few years back with box and manual. There's still an FM station in my town that spins vinyl and plays good music, so I hang onto it.

Man, all this talk of vintage Sansui.....I'm jealous of you yahoos. I've been jonesin' to get my hands on one for a long time but they never seem to pop up at a decent price.

Would love an AU anything, the 717-719's are right up my alley. That tu 9900 I wouldn't mind either, sweet.....post some pics man, along with an address so I can some goons over in the middle of the night. :)

Crappy cell phone pic attached. But gives you the general idea. Address withheld (for good reason!). I also have a modded TU-717 that sounds really sweet. Only problem is that it has a drift issue in the lower frequencies, and that is where I primarily listen. So it's sitting on a shelf right now :/l0j19g4gpsn1.jpg

Yeah right Sir, those bad boys sell for like 600-1000 in my neck of the woods. Plus who knows what kind of additional work it would need. You can almost buy a more modern piece for the prices of some of this vintage stuff.

I should have grabbed a 717 a few months back when one came up for sale for 300 on my local CL, but someone beat me to it.

    Jet,
She looks sweet my good man, get that drift issue looked at and keep that puppy for like....forever. I wish they made gear today that had that vintage look.....and sound.

Oh my, Its terrible round here. If we had a station that even knew what vinyl looked like I would have kept it. Best station here = 88.1= Ga. Public Radio with NPR. At least you get to hear Classical and sometimes Jazz or Bluegrass. The rest of the stations either will not tune in or they play Pop, Rap or Country. Not too big on any of those three. And I think that tuner of yours is Boss, really nice.
