Estate sale SDA SRS 2

Oh yes, nothing better than good friends with an eye for the right stuff. Henry my local audio friend hits the sales in this area every Saturday without exception. A hundred bucks, delivered to my front door. He knows how much I love my Polk SDA2 speakers that you guys helped me rework so when he saw these he just bought them for me ! I took out all the midwoofers as soon as he arrived before we even took them out of the truck. One 6511 has started to shift (voice coil rub, just a bit) and another 6511 has some small cuts in surround. Now, if I can find two 6511s I will start on all the rest of the upgrades. The cabs are really nice even though the cat had a bit of fun..20160910_105331_zps9rn2ilth.jpg

Great deal on pin/blade SRS-2's. Don't know how bad the cuts in the surrounds are, but for me this product worked for a tear in the surround of a MW.

Use the cement only and not the patch

Can you hear the coil rub while pushing on the PR or just when pushing on the driver cone? I had one that rubbed slightly while pushing on the driver cone but couldn't hear it doing the PR test or while playing music.

Wow, i would have never thought to use rubber patch cement to patch rubber, no really I would have probably been out in the shop thinking of what glue to use ! I never seem to take the obvious straight forward way. I may well try that. I have used another product successfully however it has been long ago and I do not recall what it was. In time I just replaced the mid woofer and put that one aside for emergency use. I did not know about the passive push in test that is another great piece of information. It just slightly rubs, not bad at all. i am going to try that after I gar them all epoxied. Thanks for your response because I do not have nearly the knowledge that you guys do here on the site.

Mike, what makes these more desirable ? Is the bi amp option ? I see there are two sets of binding post on the back. I had hoped to use the top set of binding posts for one of the outputs of my Parasound 1206 and the bottom to another set of outputs on the other channel as the 1206 is a six channel amplifier and that would give me 260 W up top and 260 below according to Parasound at 8 ohms. I really wish that I could find an owners manual to download for these so I would not need to ask so many questions, or perhaps that is a good thing as others may need the info. in the future and here it will be !

The biamp terminals are a difference from the earlier blade/blade SRS 2, but not the "important" difference. The tweeters take almost no current, they're not much of a load for the amplifier. Some folks claim that biwiring in itself is a benefit; and some argue that it's all smoke and mirrors with no basis in science.

The blade/blade SRS 2 is strongly based on the SDA 1B, and is a fine-sounding speaker. The blade/blade--1B series cannot be made compatible with amplifiers that are not common ground. They're also a "4-ohm" nominal design.

The pin-blade SRS 2 is strongly based on the SDA 1C. This generation can be made compatible with non-common-ground amplifiers by using an isolation transformer in the SDA cable. (Search for " AI-1 ", "Dreadnought", and "Dreadnaught".) These speakers are a "6-ohm" nominal design, so somewhat less current-intensive than the previous generation.

I may have one...I can't remember if my speakers came with an owner's manual or not. I'll take a look.

Schurkey thanks, I have been reading all that I can find about them and I had come to believe that these were closely associated with the SDA 1C. I suppose no owners manual is not such a big deal however I like to have such as that so I really do appreciate you taking a look for me.

So I guess I should have written that I wanted a drawing/schematic for the crossovers, my bad. I can hook em up and position them no problem. I would like to see what parts are used in the crossover and how they are connected to the bi amp speaker terminals. I guess I should just take one out (or both I think) and photograph it and write down values. I really do thank you guys. I just found this one over at Gimpods site.
    http://www.gimpod.com/pdfs/SDA_SRS_2_1987_PB_Schematic.pdf

Ok, one more edit, The Gimpod drawing above seems to me to be the exact one I need. One piece crossover mounted behind the passive. The capacitor values all check out the same so, If I get lame again I will start another thread .. Thanks to all again.
  • Nice score! those are the first vintage Polk's I ever laid ears on...Started my new addiction.

All the available schematics are hosted on this site, in one of the "sticky" posts at the top of the list.

    For SDAs, you're looking for

You know I recall being pointed there or finding that sticky in my reading before. I really do thank you for the link . Now I have the 1987, SRS 2, and the Gimpod schematic diagram .

I got lucky with Polk speakers over and over it seems. RTA8t then SDA 2b then Monitor 5s (with Peerless, yes !) Then Monitor 11s then these SRS 2s. Blessing after blessing. I have always loved Polk Audio speakers.

OK, they are all epoxied and back in place. Next for the interconnect.

That's awesome man! I get VERY lucky as well, I got my RTA11TLs for free (had to fix some drivers), got my Monitor 5s (SL2000s boo!) for $30 and my SDA 2Bs for $100!

Those SDA SRS 2s are still my unicorn speaker.

Now if I can get lucky with a more powerful amp XD!

IDK if there is a thread here about great deals on Polk equipment (there probably is) so I wont post the prices on all the others I was blessed with (and yes, I do consider them a blessing) for less than a song not that I don't want to, I just don't want to get scolded ! That said I must say that I am really, really happy with these SRS 2 speakers, they are a horse of a different color as compared to the SDA2b's . Even without any upgrades and with a temporary interconnect I tend to think them a better sounding speaker than any of the others I own.
