Am I crazy?

Since I lost a tweeter in my SRS 2 I plugged in the RTA12Bs . I have to say I think I actually like the RTA better than the SRS 2.

This has me thinking I should rebuild the crossovers in the rta before I do the Rdo198 and crossovers in the SRS.

The rta seem to have a better Soundstage, more dynamic and precise.

So am I crazy to think the rta sounds better that a srs 2?

What tweeters are in your SDA's? Which ones in your RTA's?

There's no way the RTA's should have a better soundstage than the SDA's, something is amiss.

Depending on the tweeters in each speaker it's very possible to prefer the sound, tonally, of the RTA-12B's over the SDA's though. I had Peerless tweeters in my RTA-12B's and going from them to the SL2000's in the SDA 2B's I much preferred the tonal balance of the RTA-12B's.

Agreed, something is very wrong with your SDA's.

Maybe the tweeter in the SRS has been out longer than I thought.

The rta just seems to disappear in the room.
They really bring a smile to my face.

The rta has sl1000. The SRS are all oem. I swapped the bad tweeter feombtop to bottom today and it is the tweeter that's bad.

The only right thing to do here I think is to replace all the caps and resistors in both and restore themy to thier former glory. They both deserve it!

Here is a peek inside the sda. Everything looks normal to you guys?

It doesn't have to be crossover related. Check that your drivers are wired correctly and that they all function properly. Also check that your SDA cable is working. Some times the connection at the socket gets loose and/or oxidized.

Another thought, are you sure the left speaker is on the left and right on the right as you look at them? No toe in?

I have them flat against the wall. I have no doubt they are wired correctly. The original owner who I work with told me the drivers have never been removed from the cabinets. So unless they were wired wrong from the factory, they should be fine.

Let me get the tweeters replaced since I have a bad one and re listen to them.

Like I said this tweeter may have been gone much earlier than I relized. I'm sure that would affect the sda Soundstage.

I will check the cross cable tomorrow.

Thanks for the pointers and tips guys.

Oh, yes the left is left and right is right. No toe in on them at all.

How far apart are they? How far away is your seated position? How far from the sidewalls are they? Is there anything between them at the front baffle?

If you can't get the SDA's working to your liking you've already said it all with your RTA's, "they really bring a smile to my face". My SDA's aren't leaving anytime soon but if I didn't have the right "room" for them I wouldn't waste my time trying to make them work. Life's too short, IMO...

I have the minimum recommended distance between then, but am a foot short or either side of them. Unfortunately that is all I have to work with.

After I get them back up and running and if I can't get them to sound like I think they should I might move them to the living room which is much larger and would have no problem meeting Polks recommend placements.

What's good about that is they would just be on the other side of the wall from my equipment rack and I also just purchased a universal remote with a bunch of IR blasters. This should alow me to keep them conected to my amp instead of the old Pioneer HTR in the living room.

As you can see its a little crowed.

Here is the living room wall I have to work with if I move them out there. I guess the Paradigms will make good back patio speaker.
For scale, each tile on the floor is 1 Sq ft.

The small room definitely needs some side absorption, and likely is too small regardless. Depth may be an issue in the livingroom. You'll have to see how the reflections are. I would also recommend a rug or something for the floor.

For reference, if you were to place the SDA's near where the Paradigms are, and move the Paradigms about a foot or two wider on each side of the SDA's, it will seam like the sound is coming from the Paradigms.
