Replacement or repair of SDA-2 interconnect cable

I own a pair of SDA-2 speakers (original owner, purchased in 1985) and recently my new lab pups destroyed one end of the original interconnect cable. <heartbroken> I have not been not been able to find a replacement cable, so thought I would try the Polk forum. I found several very old threads, but nothing recent. My cable is a blade-pin connector type, not the blade-blade (as I've seen on eBay).

Are these cables available anywhere? And, if not, can the connector alone be purchased and then wired/soldered to my existing cable? BTW--I'm not handy with a solder gun, so I would need to find someone to do this. Do you think a local sound shop would be able to handle this? I live in small town USA, but only about 2 hours from Houston.

Thanks for any advice.

Bev

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I am surprised no one else has responded yet, but it was a holiday weekend. I think your cable can be repaired. I have not seen one apart so I am not sure how tough the insulation is around it. If you still have the center pin portion, that is best. All you need is the center pin. The connection between speakers only goes through the Pin portion.

An RCA plug end soldered on to your existing cable will work, but the pin is a little loose. Cut off 3 or all of the outside "blades". At worst a new cable can be made using two RCA connectors, and speaker cable. DO NOT use a standard RCA cable.

With either route, anyone with decent soldering skills should be able to make it.

This would also work, if it is easier or more cost effective. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Interconnect-Cable-Polk-Audio-SDA-SRS2-3-Speakers-16ga-20ft-Gold-connectors-New-/162184654976?hash=item25c2f57080:g:FtsAAOSw37tV-tij

I would recommend contacting @westmassguy first. He may have a better option for you.

The other option is to completely remake the connection with a Speakon connector which is the popular upgrade. But this would require modifying the Pin - Blade connection on the back of the speaker. This may be more work than you want to do, or are comfortable with. Again @westmassguy would be the person to check with.

If someone has a spare cable for sale, they likely will reply here or in a PM to you.
