I'm new to Denon products so I'm not sure if this is a normal thing or not. When I power up my 3805 its makes a humming/vibration noise when cut on. It has never done this until recently. Does this sound normal, its almost like its storing power and when its powered up it releases the left over energy and/or sounds like something rattleing in the power supply. Could really use your help asap so I can return it today while they have them in stock if need be

I can't speak for that exact model, but my CTC dims the lights, and finally "snaps" audibly into kick-**** mode when turned on.....and that's just the first power switch :D

Mark, you fail to mention that it will heat small to medium size rooms. I wonder what the btu rating is on that ****.

Christ, between you and Jesse, there wasn't ONE piece of gear between you that I could have manhandled out the door by myself in the middle of the night and headed south with under the cover of darkness.

Of course, when I heard the banjoes playing in the middle of the night, I was locking the bedroom door.

Sounds like the transformer in the power supply humming to the tune of 60 cycles per second.

I wouldn't stress about it, I have heard transformer hum at startup in tons of gear. Just run down to the Tweeter, and see what their Denon demo's do...that would be easy enough. If it is different, then tell them while you are present, what is happening.

Troy - Those banjo's scare me, I need to start bringing my gun when I go to Jesse's house :D

Well, just got off the phone with Tweeters, they are swaping it out with a new one. They said the new one will be in Tuesday. They also checked the display model and said the display model is NOT doing what mine is doing so they are just going to swap it out. Have to love that kinda customer satisifaction.

Glad to hear that, without actually hearing it we can only guess. It is not uncommon for a transformer to hum at startup, who knows, perhaps yours was singing :)

    Grimster,
My best friend is looking into getting 3805, along with Anthony Gallo's nucleus and Diva. What's your opinion on the receiver? I recommended him this Denon over the Sony 3000ES. I own Denon receivers and amps in the past but not ES amps, and found them to be very nice. So, very familiar with their sonic quality. Based on his budget, I think both receivers are comparable, interested to hear your impressions. Thanks..
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

My 3803 never did that. It just clicks once for on and off, and also when External Inputs are selected or de-selected.

Just picked up my new 3805. Not only that but the mic I ordered for the 3805 from Crutchfield came in today also. Looks like I know what I'll be doing tonight. Will gladly post my results tomorrow.

Well, all I have to say about the new AVR-3805 with the optional mic, room setup/room eq feature is holly @#$%. As far as the AVR recording distances from the mic to the speakers goes, dead on accurate. I measures with a tape measure from the center of the mic to the front of the center channel a distance of 16'-7 1/2". The receiver stored a distance of 16'-7", pretty damn close if you ask me.

As far as the room EQ went, just amazing. Not really sure what everything really means but the SQ is unbeleivable. When I get home tonight I will record all the adjustments it made as far as the graphic eq. and the parametric eq. Can't understand why all manufactures haven't been doing this from day one. I know alot are doing it now but this is just something short of amazing. So, for those of you out there that aren't really sure if you should get the mic for the 3805, in my opinion, worth every penny if you ask me.:D

You know, I was at BB yesterday and it never even crossed my mind to take a look at them. I may have to just go by BB today on my lunch break. Any ideas on which DVD-A I should get, you know, a good demo for this weekend.:D

Yeah, I'm doing a demo Friday night for my bud that works at Tweeter's. He really wants a PB2+ but just wants to make sure he hears one first before he purchases. Have a feeling he may just order one right after he leaves the house.:D

In my opinion faster, may still be a while before they hit e-bay. Seems Crutchfield, Tweeters and all other Denon dealers are having a hard time keeping them in stock according to all the salesmen I've talked with.

The first 2 things that come to mind, speaker setup/room eq setup with the optional mic and the 3805 is PLIIx. Sure there are more difference/upgrades but I never owned the 3803. Oh, and 3 componenet inputs and a new remote.

120 watts compared to 110. Here, maybe this will help some.
