London

Any you guys familiar with London ? I'm going to have a 4 hour layover in Londons Heathrow airport and need something to do. I can't stand sitting in an airport for 4 hours. Is there anything worth seeing or eating within a taxi ride from the airport ?

I should probably just save the coin for bail money. The wife has already expressed desires to flip off the Queen and the Pope. If you see headlines about an American getting arrested for assault in England or the Vatican, that'd be my wife. lol

The quickest way to Central London is on the high speed Heathrow Express train that takes about 15 minutes to get to Paddington in central London. The Tube takes about an hour for the same trip but is cheaper and can be more entertaining and crowded. You could take the Tube from Paddington anywhere you want to go. A taxi would be expensive, but may work out if you have a specific place you want to see and get to and from quickly. There isn't really anything tourist interesting to see near Heathrow as it is a residential and office park area.

I should also add that getting out of the airport is easy once through passport and customs which can take an hour. Getting back through security can take a couple of hours depending on time of day and terminal, so a four hour layover may not leave much time. Most people just walk around and shop in the duty free stores.

I would stay in the airport. Security alone will screw you out of a couple hours

Perhaps you can play God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols at full volume over the PA system. That should get you a tour of London pretty quickly.

I second nooshinjohn, Heathrow is not a bad airport to have a layover in. Stay put. The place is a destination itself, some good shopping to be had there.

Not enough time. I tried that in Amsterdam once. Okay, maybe more than once. Wait. Where am I? Was that out loud?

    Cheers

4 hour layover international having to clear customs and re enter security will give you about 15 minutes of time before you have to return to the airport.... Get a good book

Drink some Vino and make fun of their accents in the airport bar.

Ya know, when it takes 4 hours to leave and re-enter an airport, I see that as a problem. I hate crowds, can't even stand O'Hare, and Heathrow is bigger and busier. I may start an international incident just to get a room to myself. Handcuffs are worth the peace and quiet. :)

LMAO Ken, but ya know....being around crowds of morons I'd welcome that padded room.

Had the same feeling people watching on the pier in San Francisco, get me the fvck outta here. So I made a B-line straight towards Napa and there I stayed amongst somewhat normal folks. Thing with London is, there are no normal folks until you hit Spain or Italy.
