I dropped into this local hifi store today to wack a deposit down on a Tivoli clock radio & did a tour around the store. I also had the opportunity to have a short listen to the new B&W 802 D3's setup with Mac electronics. I have to say the 802 D3's are a nice improvement over the older generation. They seem to have mostly tamed the hot tweeter, and the speakers had better attack and resolution. They also threw up a large sound stage. Image depth was quite good, though I think they could improve that further by moving the speakers closer together & a bit further out in the room. Conclusion: the guys were probably looking for a bit more bass reinforcement. Question...do the D3's still lack a bit of bass authority compared to the 800's?
The Mac gear as always is nice eye candy. They also had some nice PS Audio & ARC gear on hand, though I didn't get to listen to that. Though the guys at Tivoli are good value, I didn't want to waste their time since I wasn't in the market for any of that gear.
The PS Audio gear did have a nice solid feel to it. It looks like well put together gear. Maybe i'll get a chance to hear the BHK mono's next time I drop in. Btw, the amp in the 2nd photo was the first serious integrated amp I owned; a Nakamichi Amplifier 1 which I bought from Philippe Luder back in 1991. It's fun letting an audiophile loose in a hifi shop...like a kid in a candy store!

As you know, I am a fan of BW D3. I agree with your assessment, it is better than the previous series. And when in a good room, it really shines.Magico, JL, Emm, ARC Ref 10 line, ARC Ref 10 phono, VPI, Lyra, Boulder, AQ Wel, SRA Scuttle Rack, Bluesound -
I thought the D3's threw up s convincing soundstage and were dynamic sounding on fast piano pieces. Nimble little things. Their are faster speakers, but they held their own. Then again, maybe I need to hear them with the BHK mono's? The midrange is more transparent...draws less attention to itself. "Composed" is a good word to describe them.
