  • I also picked up a HCA-1500 beautiful condition. I am auditioning it right now. It is a very worthy contender. I might just settle on it as it is more modern plus it sounds fabulous as well, and it pairs nicely with the P5 I have.

Cool, though I would think those 2 combined might lean towards the too warm side. Those HCA series amps are great bargains for the buck no doubt.

Actually Tony to me the P5 leans toward the cool side just a touch, or it could be that it is very neutral so combined with the HCA it works out well, to my ears anyway. I was going to part with either the HCA or the Hafler XL600, yet have decided to keep both. I really, really like this Hafler but need to check the DC offset before too much use. It sounds most excellent with the P5. So reluctantly I will need to part with my A23 at some point.

If you decide to go the Hafler route I have a pair that I would unload for next to nothing. It's been a while (3-4 years) since they've been hooked up, but, if memory serves they were working fine. One has XLR connections and the other is RCA.

I apologize, I misspoke. Looks like the pair of Hafler's I have are p230's

Ironically, I've been browsing around for an A23 or a McCormack 125, leaning on the A23 so plz put my name on the list if you decide to part with the A23.
