George touched us all we miss him dearly. I never met George but most of us here on Polk are better people because of him. His wit and fire were truly remarkable. I miss most of all just seeing this tagline " from the Jerseygrands" and of course his way of making you feel like a million bucks as he smacked the snot out of you :) My dear Lady or My dear Man as George would put it.
god bless you and your family

Thank you for your post, and for sharing George & his time with us (here and at AK) during his life. He was an amazing man and clearly proud of and deeply in love with his family. We all miss him, although surely not as much as you all do.

Although I have only been here since 2012.

Mr. Grand was extremely nice to me as a "newbie". Helped me on many things..

Even though, I never had the pleasure to know him better.

I sincerely say, Prayers and blessings to you and your family.

Sat down with him on Lou's back porch. Just BSn about life and music. He reminded me about my Dad. Direct, to the point and loved music. Told it like it was.
Theresa..... In that short time I had with him only pales in comparison to what you knew of him. :'(:D and the >:) he was.

I lurked and learned on a lot of George's posts/threads. He had a devilish, quick wit that could slay or prop up the he or she who had George's attention at the moment.

We threw pi$$ and vinegar at each other a few times over a variety of topics. It was fun, interesting and always made a guy think. I always came away from these "matches" with a little chuckle and a little more respect for him. Always wanted to meet him, in person - one of the jerseygrands' best!

Miss him around these parts.... :'( May he Rest In Peace and may you, his family, get great joy out of all the wonderful memories he provided you and many, many others with.
  • I also never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Grand in person and that's my loss (and probably his gain).
One of a kind, not to be duplicated, replicated, or substituted.

He described one of the best concerts that he had ever attended, by his greatly admired Frank Zappa.

"The next show was the highlight of my concert going career. Same year, 1971, CARNEGIE HALL. First off, Frank was CLEARLY pleased to be playing that venue. "Boys and girls, welcome to the desecration of Carnegie Hall!" were the first words he said. I think he was also very pleased that we had brought back the opening act, The Persuasions, for three or four encores. It was apparent from the look on The Persuasions faces as we standing ovationed them, that THEY couldn't believe it. We were largely a young, stoned out, white crowd, and they appeared to be astonished that we cared for them. I can't say much for that show because words cannot describe the relationship between how well the band played that night, and the acoustics offered by the hall. MAGNIFICO! The encore by The Mothers was The Mudshark. After the last regular number on the card ended, the band left the stage. We standing ovationed until Frank alone came back out. Here's what followed....

"I've just been told by the management of this hall that if I want to use this stage past midnight, I have to pay an extra $600."

At this point people started to get up and put their jackets and coats on.

"Well I'll tell you what.... I'D BE HAPPY TO PAY 600 BUCKS TO PLAY FOR YOU PEOPLE SOME MORE!!!"

The place went crazy, the rest of the band came onstage, and Frank leaned into the mic and said, "This next song is dedicated to the **** in the back counting the overtime money."

Not unlike Frank Zappa, Mr. Grand didn't fit into anybody's mold, didn't follow anyone's path, and told it like he saw it.

And most of all, his love of his family was there for all to see.
    A very honorable man.

Theresa, I had the pleasure of talking to George at two HQ Polkfests. I loved his sense of humor both in person and on the board.

But what I loved most about him is the love and respect that he had for you and his family. He was a true gentleman, and that is hard to come by in this day and age.

My brother Mark and I extend our deepest condolences to you and Stephanie.

I wish you all the best.

    Theresa,

I met George almost exactly a year ago when I purchased a little Carver receiver from his "audio closet cleaning sale" to power our outdoor speakers. I met you and Stephanie briefly as well. I was heartbroken earlier this year when I heard of George's passing. In the short 30 minutes or so I spent at your house with George I could tell he was a true gentleman, a wonderful asset to the Polk community, and most importantly, a great husband and father.

I think of George every time I power that Carver receiver on to listen music on our patio. As others have said, we miss him, and my deepest condolences go out to you, Stephanie, and all those whose lives he touched.
