Please give me a rough idea...

Looking at a few speakers and want to know what fair prices would be. Fair to both me and the seller, not what someone stole some at GoodWill or an estate sell.
First, nice looking and performing stock 5JR+.
Second, 2.3's with the funky upper and lower mid-woofers. All original, in-mod'ed, IC included, look fantastic. Guy wants like $1200 which I'm thinking is a little stout??
And last, 3.1TL. IC cable ends changed to whatever all you SDA guys say is only mod. Look good from what I've seen. Compared to 1C's, I can't see them being worth a lot more. I think new price was $200 more. But it's about sound and 3.1TL's might make 1C's sound like Bose 501's so they do have more real value. F1nut or any of you others that have actual first hand experience please chime in. Same for the early 2.3's.

  • 2.3's above are un-mod'ed. Not in-mod'ed. No stuck drivers or anything like that in any of these in question. Thx.

Agree with Schurkey here. 2.3s will go for more as they are considered some what rare. I would say with the 5Jrs I would go with nothing over $100.

Once again it's all about condition and location. $1200 is less than 1/2 what they sold for in 1989 money, and that is money is worth 1/2 what it is today so 75% off of new, in today's money. For me the rule is: perfect condition, close location, pay for the pair what one speaker would have cost then.

The "funky midwoofers" have donut weights on them, I remember them in my dads 2.3's.

  • In Dallas/Ft.Worth. I've got Monitor 12 S2's with all the hooplah done and they definitely are working better than they did when I got them. But I've also got a pair of Vandersteen Model 2's that kill them for width, depth, and any other way of painting the musical picture. Westmassguy says I need try some SDA's before giving up on Polk so the couple asked about are available locally and wanted to know what people nationally think is fair. The little 5jr+ are garage speakers to replace some Bose 301.3's so $75-100 is all I want to spend.

With SDA 1C's being in the $500 range, I wouldn't think 3.1TL's would be worth more than $100-150 more since they're pretty similar in parts costs in them??

For the fella estimating about 1/2 original retail price, I sure the hell wished that applied towards the Monitor series too. My 12's appear to be worth more like 1/4 original price. I've got more than what they're worth in the costs for what all I've done to them since getting them. No one's going to pay $500 for M12.2's mod'ed or not. Just write it off as a dumb move I guess.
