Run, don't walk for 1.2 TL's for 800.00 OBO in Colorado

Just bringing attention to what looks like a great deal. The price went from 1200 to 800 OBO.

I just went and checked these out. The add is legit and the speakers were in excellent condition. Missing one grill and could not find the pin blade IC. Call me crazy but I did not get them, and don't know if I will. One passive was signed by Mr. Polk himself. All this gear belonged to a guy that recently passed away and his family members are selling to put the house on the market and around here it will sell in about an hour. This guy had a TON of gear. He might have been a member here, his name was Chuck Smiley I believe. There was some Avantgarde Duo Omega, some really high end record players tube amps cables power cords and a ton of vintage and high end gear you name it. I told them they might potentially have more in gear than the house is worth.

That name seems familiar and since the PR was signed perhaps the gentleman attended a Polkfest.

    RIP.

RIP indeed, I hope he went listening to some of that awesome gear. There was also drums, guitars, basses, records. His family is real nice and said he was an electrical engineer.

I placed a call to the number in the ad to try and get some details about what happened to Chuck. If they call back I'll post what I find out here.

Those speakers are SDA SRS 1.2's, they are not TL's. Chuck bought them new and they spent most of their life in his bedroom closet before he moved to Colorado.

Yeah they must have had his service already, just an educated guess. I have been looking in all our local obituaries but turned up nothing. I will probably call them again and try and get some more info.

I did, They called me Sunday, and I went and pick them up.. I'm going to do a few upgrades, clean them up, and more than likely I will resell them..

I didn't notice Saturday when I went and looked at them, but the pet hair on them on the lower part of the speakers was pretty bad...

I will be keeping the signed PR...

Yeah me too, At least they found the other grill for the SDA's. He had some really nice stuff but it was all out of my league. I mainly went to check them out for the forum and see what else was there. Also to see if it was a forum member here, and sadly it was, sad no matter how you slice it.
Larry, I was wondering if he did any x-over work to those or just stock?
  • Toolfan66
    Toolfan66 Posts: 17,237
They are stock inside and out, Jan called me a few times, as they were just wanting them gone, I told her without the grill I didn't want them for $800, she said make an offer I told her $600, and I would come and get them, I really don't need or want, but knowing finding a grill or having one made would be a ****.. Funny thing is I walked the house with them, and couldn't find the grill, not once did I think to look behind a door..

She called me on my way up, and said they found the grill, so I gave them the $800 and left with them, all the way home asking my self what did I just do?? LOL!!

It helped them out, and they were happy, and I know I can sell them, but I'm going to do a few upgrades for the new owner, and leave it at that..

I'm not going to touch the X-overs..

I thought maybe one got damaged or lost in the move because I know Chuck had both before he moved out there.

I also know he didn't pay $8k for the Avantgarde's, but they are worth every penny of it.

Larry, did you see the Manley mono blocks? If so, you should buy them.

They were gone when I got there..

She said Kevin, and I were the only ones to look through stuff with respect, she couldn't believe how people would just throw this box over here over there as they were going through it..

She really enjoyed our company!!! :D

Larry, you must know somebody on the "inside" to come up with those rings, they are very scarce most of the time :D
