amp question

Briefly, can someone tell me how you connect (2) amps to the same speaker to provide more power to the speaker? Do you use a RCA splitter to get the signal to each amp or something?

This is why I ask...
I want to purchase a 5x100 amp to push my 5.1 setup and buy a 2x200 amp in the future (for my rti150 towers). I think I can use the two amps to produce 3x100 (for center and surround), combine the other 2 channels from the 5 channel amp with the 2x200 to produce 2x300. Am I smokin something or is this possible? Please help and thank you.

No, you're right on...the 150s can be bi-amped and I'm doing that now...I'm sure along with many others...

In fact, that's really the best way to get the best sound out of them without spending a ton. You'll see there are two sets of terminals on each speaker.

    1. Remove the Jumper between those terminals.
    2. Connect the amp which will be giving the 150s LESS power to the TOP post.
3 Connect the amp with more power to the bottom.
    4. Set the gain on both amps where you like it and you're all set.

Keep in mind that different amps will have different sound characteristics, but the above is a good way to start.

You're the man! That's what I wanted to hear.

What do you think about this...
I just bought an Adcom GTP-760 (5.1) Pre-Pro to provide the signal. Looking at adding an Adcom GFA-7400 (100x5) to push my setup. In the future, add a GFA-5500 (200x2) and bi-amp the rti150's.

    How about it???

Also, how do you adjust the gains on the amps? Keep in mind that I've never had separates and am learning this as I go along. I had a typical A/V receiver before I started this. Thanks for the info.

To be honest, I'm a little new as well. On my HK, I adjust the gain (or volume, sort of) with a knob on the back, usually very straightforward.

Does the 7400 have pass through ports to connect another amp, am wondering how you'll connect both the 7400 and 5500 to the power source. I guess you could use a y cable out of the preamp and run signal to each amp from that, not sure how that will affect sound quality though, probably not much.

I assume that since you've chosen Adcom that you like their gear? A few people think they're a little on the harsh side, but if you've listened and like them, that's all that counts. Alot of people like them also, so not trying to sway your opinion, just make sure to give them a listen if you can and determine if they're for you.

I think that will be an awesome setup.

By the way, I'm not the man...say thanks to all the guys on the forum that taught me what I know, which is still very little but increasing every day.

I don't see any pass thru ports on the 7400. The only way I know you can do it is with a splitter (Y-cable).

Honestly, I did some research and chose Adcom because it fit my budget and seemed to have the most bang for the buck. There are really no high-end audio stores near my home, so I had to go off of what others said about sound quality and features before making that decision. So far, I haven't screwed up. New DVD player and cables are next. Then new TV.

Like you, I'm very new and still learning. Some of the lingo has me lost, but I catch on fast. Yeah, I thank the other posters as well. They have helped me a great deal with my new setup. Watch my posts and I might ask some questions that will help you with your setup. I hope to have my amp within 2 weeks and will post something on the board to let you know how it turned out.
