I gave this receiver to my GF a few years back, suddenly one day she told me something was wrong and one channel was nonfunctioning so I parked it and gave her a different unit. Its been sitting for several years, need to make a decision, taking up space too long. Pretty decent unit really, purportedly one of HK's three best receivers. Didn't pay that much for it. Not going to sink a bunch of dough into it. I'll karma it instead. Guys around me want $75 just to look at it to tell me what it needs. Shipping to anyone for a fix might be $100 roundtrip, I didn't pay much more for it (plus shipping of course). Probably just venting here, but I'd appreciate any thoughts anybody has. Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking there's something else going on, she said something about a storm the night before but she wasn't sure. She just said she went to play something and there's nothing coming out of one channel. She had been using it quite a bit before it suddenly had the problem with one channel. Its not a reduced signal or anything like that. I can try it though. Thanks.

Yeah like you said-dont want to sink too much money into it. At first i thought it was one of those HK vintage units & then i looked it up & see its a newer model & i think it may be worth a try but your probably right. It may be one of those things that happens & it may be ready for audio heaven

No, its a vintage unit. I think I remember they used the same model number on a newer model as well. The vintage unit, IIRC, was basically two mono blocks in one chassis. It was a very nice model.

The HK 670 was their top of the line receiver from about 79-81 IIRC.

Mr. Hardy is probably more familiar with the circuitry in there than I, but my first guess, in light of possible electrical surges and the loss of a channel, would be to check the internal fuses. Should be obvious if one is toasted! Other than that, DeOX sure. But if one channel is out and it's not a fuse or dirty contacts, then it would require a more technical perusal of the power board section-or so I am told. I have yet to graduate from the local Vo Tech with a degree in electronics, even though I have a ton of, what are considered by "many", impractical degrees, lol. On the plus side, some here seem to have had the time to educate themselves in this sphere. And that's why they're here, to try to educate us as well even if we slept through most shop classes in our Junior High years? I do not "envy" them in this task!

Well worth popping the hood, as suggested above.

The hk670's a pretty nice piece. Kind of funny looking, but a good sounding piece of hardware.

Thanks guys, I'll take the lid off and see what I can discern. It is a pretty decent unit, would be nice if its something minor.
