Downsizing (slowly) continues...

I bought this DAC from @dhart86 in January 2013 (see sale thread including the DAC-2 upgrades here) and used it in my den system and, lately, in the living room. In March 2015, I sent it to W4S for the Femto clock upgrade ($275). They also upgraded the fuse. There are some very light scuff marks on the top where the SBTouch sat (see pics) but is otherwise in excellent shape. The light has to be right to see the scuffs.

This is a great DAC and it hurts to sell it; but I must since I don't have space for two full-blown 2-channel rigs in the beach house. Original packaging, manual, software, generic power cord included.

    I have a CDP via coaxial, Sonos via toslink, and a laptop via USB (Jriver) hooked up to my W4S DAC...output to am Ampino amp

    I was never aware of an ability to use as preamp (and never would have wanted to do so even if it could - I have always preferred a tube pre with volume remote).

    Nevertheless, I THINK this is not an option on this particular model but am not certain.
    Here is a pdf of the manual and from a quick glance, I don't see any mention of use as such. Sorry I can't be more definitive.

    Maybe the guys who have used one as a preamp can share their experiences on how-to and results?

    OK, so I was getting ready to put this dac up on ebay and was adding dehart's upgrade info. Looks like it cannot be used as preamp. Heres his text:

    This Dac has been upgraded to perform identically to the DAC2.

    The Usb input is Asynch 24/96. The caps have been upgraded to those in the Dac2 --W4S low ESR "super-cap" (same as used in the STP-SE) 88,000uF of filtering. The new caps are not fully burned in. Bought in June 2012, then sent back to W4S for the upgrade in July 2012.

    The only difference between this Dac1 and the Dac 2 is this dac doesn't have the built in pre-amplifier. Every thing else is identical. This unit was in the bedroom and didn't get much use.
