Parasound amp model 275 for polk RTia10

Hi guys!
Need help here...
Here's my set-up

Rti10
CSia6
Fxi5
Sub acoustech pl 200
Pionner 1227-K (class D3 amp, canadian version of pionner elite SC-63, I think)

Would a parasound amp (model 275, 2 channel) would be a great add-on?

I have never experienced with an external amp. I know it should improve SQ but I am wondering if this specific model would be a good choice. I would buy it used.

Thanks for your thought!!!

  • Here's the specs of the parasound 275:

    Continuous RMS Power Output
20 Hz – 20 kHz, Both Channels Driven
    75 watts x 2, 8 Ω
    120 watts x 2, 4 Ω
    120 watts x 2, 2 Ω

    Current Capacity
    20 amps peak per channel

    Frequency Response
    20 Hz - 50 kHz, +0/-3 dB, 1 watt

    Dynamic Headroom
    1.3 dB

    Total Harmonic Distortion
    0.035% at full rated output
    0.025% at average listening levels

Any insight would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks
  • And my old pioneer receiver indicates 125w per channel.
So, is the parasound external amp worthwhile at 75w per channel?

I'm not sure what kind of improvement you would see with that amp on RTi10's, though I imagine you would probably benefit somewhat from having the dedicated high current power supply over that which you're sharing among all channels in using the AVR alone. I found that RTi10's performed with more authority and control with a separate amp but it was an old B&K model at 200wpc.

One of the tricks here is the current, not just the power number.

What do you hope to improve on? What do you find missing/lacking?

Meant to ask, how is the system used? Music and HT, or just HT? Do you ever run just the two front speakers full range, or do you always run the sub?

  • Hi there,
Just trying to figure out if it will improve the overall sound quality.
    Maybe 60%HT and 40%music.
I always run he sub for HT and music (only front + sub for music)
Maybe this amp won't give me that much improvement...
    thanks for helping.

I'll agree with the guys, that amp seems a bit on the light side for your power needs. I'd be looking for something with at least 35 + amperes peek to peek in the current department.

Don't just go by watts per channel, you need current to drive power hungry speakers.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
