Monitor 30 rattle

Hey, first time posting hope this is in the right spot, I'm using monitor 30's as my rear speakers in my HT setup and one of the speakers stared rattling. It doesn't sound like it's coming from the woofer of the tweeter. It sounds like it's coming from right behind where the wires plug into the box. And sometimes the sound goes away somewhat if I pick up the speaker and tilt it pointing up. Anyone know what this problem could be?

  • Hello,
Welcome to the Polk forum. The only thing inside of the speaker is the crossover and some connecting wires. The best thing to do is remove the grille cover and take out the woofer and see what's going on inside.

I agree! Or make sure everything is tight on the back terminal/binding posts.

My monitor 30 fell over and the magnetic shielding would rattle, some glue will fix it.

Sometimes the wires will rattle against something inside if they're not bundled correctly.
Always check the magnets for stray screws that might have been left behind.
I once had a guitar customer come in the shop complaining about his amp rattling when he played it loud.
I took a look inside the open back cabinet and found about 10 beer bottle caps stuck to his speaker magnet.
