What's better for rears? LSiFX's or LSi9's... & SVS PB12-Plus/2...

Hey folks, just going through some changes in the main setup. I'm currently running my LSiFX's in the back corner and I'm debating replacing them with the LSi9's. I've got some new front and centers coming (Chane) and wanted thoughts on best sound from the rears, I'm thinking the 9's as they're better at directing the sound to a specific location.

My SVS PB12-Plus/2 stopped producing any sound, so I've replaced it with a couple of M&K V-125s, so should I try to repair this guy (SVS sells a replacement amp for 399-), or just sell it as it is. It's to darn big to ship, when it arrived here it came on a skid, via freight.

Thanks for any and all input!

on the sub, although its a bummer to have to shell out 4 bills to get it working again, it would cost several times that much to replace the entire sub with something equal. I guess I would look at it this way, you'll basically be getting a new SVS PB12-Plus/2 for $400 bucks, which is less than SVS's current ENTRY level options. That's actually a pretty friggin sweet deal when you look at it that way...

It might be worth taking the sub amp into an electronics repair shop to have a look at it. Might end up being cheaper to fix.

From what I've read it depends on your setup.

For a 7.1 they recommend both side and rear surrounds be direct firing (ie LSi 7/9) v dipole (LSi F/x). For 5.1 it can be either, though personally I prefer my LSi F/x over LSi 7's which I tried in the same location (haven't tried 9's but I'm assuming would be the same).

But as with all things, if you like the 9's over the LSi F/x's who cares if protocol says your wrong lol...

Not sure there is a right way to do it. I use 2 Pairs of lsifx for surround/back duties. They are much more flexible with placment and sound best mounted on the wall several feet above your head. I have tried lsi7 and lsi15's for rear duties. The lsifx sound better. What ever sounds good to you is the answer on this one.

I preferred the lsifx as the side surrounds over the lsi9's, but I never tried them as back surrounds with the 9s in the system.

Thank you for the responses. The folks at SVS were extremely helpful. The guy I spoke with gave me a list of stuff to check out, so I'm going into the sub today. The use this strange square screw head so I'm going to have to pick up a bit that works on that.

The 2 Miller & Kreisel V-125s that I'm running in place of the SVS actually sound better. They're both forward firing and now that they're dialed in they sound amazing. the SVS is an outstanding sub, but it is humongous, and takes up quite a bit of space, in my room.

I'm going to have to try out the LSiFX's against the LSi9's and see which sounds better, though I'm going to need to get the rears up a bit. Currently on top of 35" Sanus Stands, they're going to need to go higher. Hmm, perhaps I'll have to hang them off the ceiling... hmmm
