^^ @Joey_V : Our service contract was for five years. There is three years left. The Boss as already asked the team who wanted to be on permanent nights and no one stepped up. So no idea.

^^ Yeah I'm with you there. If I could be permanently on first & have the customers third shift staff on first and switch my supervisor to third, it would be perfect. Not that I have an issue with the boss or anything of that sort. Just daydreaming now. Could be that sleepiness is starting to set in. Might have to pick up a wrench/broom soon lol.

I used to work 6PM to 6AM at IBM... loved it. Sorry you don't but you'll sort of get used to it, just like I'm sort of used to working at 7:30AM - 8:30AM on average. It only takes me two evening shifts to go back to staying up until 4-5AM though. I wonder why it is that some people are natural night owls?

My hunch is that its more fun blasting the stereo rig at 3am wide awake knowing that all the neighbors are in bed. I don't mind PM shift. I don't like the switch back and forth four times a year.. .

Yeah, switching back and forth sucks. Volunteer to stay on night shift, no more switching right? Do you get a pay increase for nights?

@Nightfall , No there's no pay increase for nights. May be a contributing reason no one wants to stay on night except maybe a couple guys. IMO nights are a little easier then days at this site.

Working the night shift in Baltimore. You see all kinds of fun stuff!
Took a few days to reset the old Circadian Rhythm. And the past week has been brutally hot in the daytime. So that's a plus at night.

I've only been to Baltimore once in High school to see the symphony. We had a blast, didn't do too much sight seeing at night though. I totally agree with ya @lightman1 working at nights does seem a little cooler in the warehouse, still not so in the high bay. Lets hope the cranes cooperate.

Well I'm probably not going to be able to be on much longer. Sunday nights are "ramp up" from production and outbound starts again as well. We were just informed that we'll have eight of the twelve lines of production running to the high bay & 1000 pallets out to shipping.

    Later Dudes.

Well looks like another easy night. Hints why I'm able to post again during my shift. I went to lunch at 2am and spoke to the Supervisor. He said outbound was only 700 pallets and half the lines from production were sent home. Over all not a bad second night on PM shift so far.

Hahaha. No way I can be sleeping after reading your commits on cables @lightman1 on @codycatalist thread.

@codycatalist I have been considering cables myself lately. I think I'm leaning towards the Kimber 8PR/8VS. They are in my price range and have great reviews. After I have moved into my new place in the next couple weeks and settled in I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a pair.

I helped open a factory that makes the plastic orange construction fencing you see everywhere, along with some other similar products.

We worked Monday and Tuesday 6am to 6pm, wed., Thursday off, then fri, sat, sun 6am to 6pm.

The next week off Monday and Tuesday, work wed, thursday, then off Friday, sat., sunday.

the hell of it was every 2 weeks, just as you were getting used to getting up and being at work at 6am, they would flip your hours, same days work and off, but you came in at 6pm and got off at 6am

2 weeks later back to 6am to 6pm, and on and on.

    I lasted 7 months.

I feel for you, sorta. You do have a regular schedule, correct? Trying working no set schedule, work days and nights or days into nights and vise/versa. Never know when you will be off and not have to answer your phone to go to work, never know when you will get sleep or have to try and sleep in case you might go to work, etc, etc... But, ya, nights suck if you've never worked them before...

  • I used to work a 7-day rotating shift. 7 afternoons (starting on a Tue), off Tue/Wed, 6 day shifts (starting on Thu), off Wed and go into work on a Thu night at 11 pm. Get off the following Thu morning at 7 am, and not have to go back into work until the following Tue afternoon at 3 pm.
I kind of liked that rotation. Got a LOT done on the afternoon/midnight shifts, pretty nice to avoid the doofus bosses and the "Nobody Showed Me", "Nobody Told Me" do nothing co-workers. Not all of them, to be sure, but far too many that it made day shift a real task.

That doesn't sound to bad compared to what @scottyboy76 posted regarding shift work. I agree about the "doofus bosses" as well. There's defiantly to many chiefs around here during day shift that think they can run the system better than the next guy. It can get pretty frustrating.

Looks like its time again. Two hours in and I'm holding it down. That's not saying much though because we are fully staffed with three other guys on site and its been pretty slow so far. Apart from crane six, We'll gloss over that part. :p

Let's see....120 kph....mulitiply by .623....carry the remainder. Then add the sum of F=MA....divided by the tan of 4.765/98.6 in a coefficient of terminal velocity at sea level.......

I get roughly 74.565 miles per hour.

    You should go faster, Ken.

Geez you complain of a 12 hour shift...I remember walking into the shop I work for at 7:30AM on a Thursday morning...bringing in a new Ram 3500 4X4 pickup for a 4 inch lift including a 4 link conversion in the front end. And then bomb dropped, had to be done for Friday...morning. I finished that ditch pig at 12:30AM Friday morning...dead tired...but I won...slept all Friday and Saturday...I still remember blitzing down highway 99 in the area here at a blistering 120Kph to get home fast to shower and sleep...lol.
