Building new cabinets for monitor 10B's

I've listened to a number of floor standing speakers up to $4000 rrp AUstralian dollars range including new Polk's and haven't found anything I like as my beaten up Monitor 10B's played through my valve integrated amp and Nakamichi CD player.
Now granted all the audio shops even some higher class shops have been playing the speakers from a higher end AV reciever and mid range CD player. That alone could be the issue.
Now my Polk's were beaten up by ebays global shipping program, there's chips and mildly crushed corners.
Value wise I know I would never get what I spend on them back, but it's so tempting to get new speaker enclosures made and get crossovers re-capped etc.
I'd be looking at around the $2000AUD from one of our local highly reputable speaker manufacturers.
Is this just the craziest idea you've ever heard, or is it worth considering?
Now, I'd also like options on sound signature. Would it change, for the better or worse?

    That's $1,500 USD... I wouldn't consider it.

For $1,500 USD I might *bring* you a pair of 10s, just not mine. B)
Expect that there will be bumps in the road. Choose to not let them rattle you.

    Polk - Monitor 10As, SDA 2Bs, LSi9s, White RTi4s, S4s, M3s, various centers.
    Boston - CR7, CR6s, CR4s.
    Subs - M&K V4, M&K VX-7B, JBL SUB150P, Jamo Sub 250, and others.

    Thanks for the opinions guys.

Besides the price I mentioned being admittedly over the top has anyone had any experience with building new cabinets for their Polk 10's?

Just interested if anyone has experience with a before and after comparison?

    Thanks again

I can understand wanting to work with what you have, but sometimes you just have to step back and think clearly about the situation.

I think Monitor 10s are great, but I also know they're worth about $150 USD, at least around here. Monitor 7s are even better in my opinion and they go for about $100.

If you want a BIG upgrade, you move up to SDA 2Bs. The Studio versions are selling for $150-$200. The real wood version will set you back $300.

I realize you may not have that kind of used Polk market near you, but it gives you an idea what other speakers you could potentially get with a tiny fraction of what you might spend on rebuilding the cabinets of lesser speakers.

I know it's often seen as sacrilege, but if the cabinets are that bad, you may want to part them out. Some Polkie out there needs your drivers to keep their beloved speakers running. Think of it as an organ donation.
