problem with amp plugged into receiver switched outlet??

Is there any problem with having an amp plugged in through the switched power outlet on the back of a receiver?

Say I've got a receiver, but am using a stereo amp to help drive my 150s, is it okay to have that amp plugged into the receiver, or will that cause issues???

    The switched outlet on most receivers is not designed to handle that large of an amp draw. I strongly recommend NOT plugging the amp into the receiver. DVD/CD players, tuners, external EQ's...not a problem, they don't draw a lot of current.

    Well that pretty much answers it. Good things I asked becuase I was doing it with my old receiver, won't be doing that with the new unit and preamp though.

    I guess I'll just have to turn my amp on at the unit everytime I turn everything on...no big deal...

    I agree with the 3 senior Polk anchors here. Over 12,000 posts between the three of them .... they definitely won't give you bum advice.
    I guess I'll just have to turn my amp on at the unit everytime I turn everything on...no big deal...

    How 'bout them 12V "triggers"? If you haven't bought an amp yet you can look into this feature to turn on your amp. Just use a 1/8 inch miniplug you buy from Radio Shack. Does your receiver have a 12V trigger out?

    The AVR does not have 12V triggers. I don't know what kind of surge arrestor you have PM, but you may want to look into a Panamax or Monster Cable....both of which offer either 12 triggers OR switched outlets, which would work in the same basic way.

    My MC 5100 has a 12V trigger, and switched outlets. Drop a line to EZC and see what he can do for you in the way of MC, if that's is your liking.

    Polk anchor, huh? Maybe we'll have to try one of those on the boat this year because all the other anchors keep dragging! What do you think, a 18" Polk Momo sub woofer or Russman's head??? :D

    A delayed power on for the amp is a nice feature with the surge arrestors like Monster. It helps to minimize any loud "speaker thumps" when the amp powers on. Amps on last and amps turned off first.

    Sweet Jesus...that 5100 is $400...will most likely be waiting on that for a while...

    I understand how the 12v trigger works ingeneral, but don't see how having one on these boxes will help. Do you have to turn on this box, then it sends the 12v signal? How is that different than just turning on the box and it sending power through the outlets? I'm missing something here, what is it??? Or is there a 12v trigger assigned to one of the plugs on the MC unit, and when you turn the deviced pluged into that port on unit on, it sends a 21v signal to whatever you prefer...

    If you were looking at Panamax, I would recommend the MAX 5100 because it has 2 hi-current outlets for sub/amp. I upgraded my DBS500 (lifetime program/warranty) for only $99! Very good CS also!!

    Thanks everyone for the input...

    That HK has a 'music sense' switch that just turns on the amps when a signal is present at the inputs. It didn't work with my AVR80...but it works now...

    So now I'm just running the amp straight from the Monster box...
